Case of the Month March 2009

86 year old female with breast cancer and upper lobe mass of lung

Langevin, E (PA) and Grant, MR (MD)

Clinical History

A woman in her 8th decade of life presented with a history of lentigo maligna and breast cancer. During a staging workup for her breast cancer, a dominant hypermetabolic nodule was identified by PET/CT in the right upper lobe of the lung, 2.7 x 1.8 cm. These findings were consistent with a malignancy. A subsequent PA & lateral chest radiograph demonstrated a 4.7 cm right upper lobe mass consistent with the findings on PET/CT. No mediastinal or hilar lymphadenopathy was identified.
