Post-Sophmore Fellowship Program

Post Sophomore Fellow
|
The Department of Pathology offers post-sophomore fellowships each year for medical students looking for a mark of distinction on their residency applications. Medical students who complete this year feel that they are better prepared for their third year of medical school and have a competitive edge when matching residency programs in both pathology and many other specialties. In addition to completing this American Board of Medical Specialties approved program (the American Board of Pathology), our post-sophomore fellows usually participate in projects that further strengthen their residency application by presenting a poster at a national meeting, competing for national awards, and getting published. These are all additional marks of distinction to a residency application in any medical specialty. About half of our fellows competitively match in other specialties like dermatology, surgery, ENT, medicine, and more.
Description:
The Department of Pathology offers up to three one-year American Board of Pathology approved Post-Sophomore Fellowships. These fellowships provide medical students with the opportunity, under faculty supervision, to engage in the activities of first-year pathology interns. The program blends the art of diagnosis with state-of-the-art biotechnology in surgical/autopsy pathology, genetics, hematopathology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, transfusion medicine and more. Each year is customized to the individual fellow's interests. In general, six months is spent on the anatomic pathology services, five on the clinical pathology services, and one-month elective/project time. An array of highly skilled faculty, with well-defined areas of expertise, provides teaching, guidance and supervision. The fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity to expand your knowledge of pathology in an academic setting rich in research activity.
