Pediatric Infectious Diseases is run by Kathryn Moffett, M.D. who is certified in both General Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Moffett works part-time in the Department, with responsibilities as the director of the Mountain State Cystic Fibrosis Center, precepting in the general pediatric clinic (2 half days per week), as well as Infectious Diseases.

Responsibilities of the section are shared and include the following:

Teaching MS2 students in the new integrated course in Microbiology and Immunology.

Teaching MS3 and MS4 students in both General Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases in the clinic, on the wards and lectures

Teaching residents and Internal Medicine fellows in Pediatric Infectious Diseases

Lecturing in the Tropical Medicine Course and involvement in the HSC International Health Program

Giving advice to physicians from around the state and region who seek advice using the MARS system.

Providing Infectious Disease advice and consultation in both the inpatient and outpatient areas.

Seeing patients in Infectious Disease Clinic

The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases was recognized as the best teaching section for 1999-2000, presented by the pediatrics residents at the annual awards banquet.

The Mountain Cystic Fibrosis Center is pleased to have gained re-accreditation from the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, after a two year period without accreditation. The Center Director is Kathryn S. Moffett, M.D.

The Mountain State CF Center works as team to care for 100 patients from West Virginia, SE Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Western Maryland. Linda Baer, R.N. is the clinic coordinator, and serves as patient advocate, study coordinator for research studies, and maintains continuity between the pediatric and adult parts of the team. Other members of our team include respiratory therapy, social service, dietitian, and physical therapy. We continue to be involved in several research studies with the pediatric CF patients
