Teaching Conferences
House staff are encouraged to maintain an active interest in recent medical developments. Among the teaching conferences scheduled are:
Pediatric Grand Rounds
Wednesday at 8 AM in HSC Room 2094 [CME Credit Offered]
Discussion of current pediatric topics by pediatric faculty or visiting professors.
Chair Meeting with Residents
The Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, meets as needed with house staff to discuss items of interest, status of projects within the department, and house staff concerns.
Check In Rounds
Held every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Senior residents briefly present the patients who were admitted to the general pediatric and subspecialty services. A general discussion of differential diagnoses, treatment modalities, and current literature pertinent to the presumptive diagnosis are explained by the house staff, faculty, and subspecialists in attendance. This conference often stimulates further review of the current literature by the house staff with an emphasis on board-oriented questions and information gathering.
Morning Report
Ruby Hospital Conference Room 1 & 2 [CME credit offered]
Held every Thursday morning from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. The Chief Resident selects two recent cases of interest which are presented by the housestaff. A brief discussion of evaluation, management and pathophysiology follows the review of the case history. All housestaff and faculty attend.
Noon Conference
Held in Room 4510 in the Health Science Center from 12 noon to 1pm daily. The chief resident schedules a diverse group of topics which are presented over lunch by faculty and visiting clinicians.
Allergy / Immunology Journal Club
Pediatric Specialty Clinic Conference Room, Physician Office Center
Held every other Friday beginning at 8:30 AM. This conference is lead by the faculty and fellows from the section of Allergy/Immunology and is open to all interested residents, students, and faculty. The current clinical and basic science literature in the field is critically reviewed.
