Department of Physiology and Pharmacology

The Department consists of over 30 faculty dedicated to understanding the basic mechanisms of normal body function, how break down in these mechanisms leads to diseases such as hypertension, Alzheimer’s, and asthma, and the discovery of new drugs to correct this dysfunction. We have a vibrant training program for graduate students to help develop the researchers of tomorrow. We also teach over 700 professional students each year in health-related careers including medical doctors, dentists, nurses, and physical therapists.
