Expectations of Examinees

  • All examinees should check email on the day before and early on the day of the examination for last minute instructor notices/changes, specifically in the event of a weather or facility emergency.

  • All examinees are to arrive on time for the examination. Admission to the exam for late arrivals will be at the discretion of the Proctor, Course Director(s) or the Dean-on-Call.

  • The class picture on SOLE should be available for identification purposes.

  • All personal belongings must be left at a location in the room designated by the Proctor. This includes, but is not limited to, study materials, backpacks, laptop cases, and handbags. Cell phones must be turned off and stored with one’s personal belongings, in other words, not on your person. Study materials should be stored before entering the examination room. Examinees should not have study materials at their desks prior to the start of the exam.

  • No use of communication or programmable devices such as cell phones, programmable watches, personal or HSC pagers, or PDAs is permitted during the examination period, whether inside or outside the examination room. The use of a laptop computer approved by the School of Medicine is required. A computer mouse may be permitted at the discretion of the Proctor.

  • Students are expected to bring their laptop, ethernet cable, and power adapter to the exam. IT staff will have a limited number of laptops, cables, and power adapters available for those who forgot that may be checked out. Checked out items are expected to be returned to the Help Desk immediately after you have completed your exam. If not returned your name will be given to the Office of Student Services who will follow-up about consequences associated with non-return of these items.

  • You are permitted to have a non-carbonated beverage in a closeable container with you during the exam; however, food must be consumed outside of the examination room.

  • Only earplugs available from the Proctor are permitted to be worn during the exam.

  • No hoods or ball caps may be worn by the examinee.

  • All examinees are expected to abide by the SOM Student Code of Integrity.

  • All examinees are expected to be familiar with the course specific testing policy.

  • All examinees are expected to respectfully follow the instructions of the Proctors and Course Directors.

  • Examinees are allowed to take personal breaks at the discretion of the Proctor. During personal breaks, examinees are not permitted to consult study materials, go to lockers, or communicate with others.

  • Examinees must not copy or make copies of test questions.

  •   Examinees must not remove scrap paper from the exam room.

  • If an exam irregularity is observed, at the discretion of the Proctor, an individual’s exam may be stopped with time noted and the incident referred to the Dean-on-Call.

  • Any personal items left in the examination room after the exam will be taken to HSC Security (304-293-4332).

EXAMINEES REQUESTING SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS

  • Examinee in need of special testing accommodations will meet with Associate Deans in a timely manner, providing documentation of need, to discuss reasonable accommodations.

  • Examinee meets with the Course Coordinator in a timely manner to request specific accommodations as approved by the Associate Deans.
