Oath of Integrity
The West Virginia University School of Medicine embraces a Code of Professionalism amongst all students, residents, faculty, and staff. Beginning with the Class of 1998, all entering medical students have participated in signing a pledge called the "Oath of Integrity". This is the first public declaration of their intent to abide by a higher code of conduct than the general public. This begins their development as professionals. Our curriculum will emphasize our school values of courage, creativity, humility, respect, intetgrity, service, and trust. This aoth provides the foundation for proper lifelong professional behavior. It is the expectation that this behavior will be consistently maintained at its highest level both inside and outside of the professional training environment.
School of Medicine Oath of Integrity:

I understand that to maintain my own standards and those of the WVU School of Medicine and the medical profesion, I am obliged to monitor my own conduct and that of my peers.
My signature indicates my pledge to abide by the Student Code of Academic and Professional Integrity for the MD Degree Program.
