Policy Regarding the Repetition of Courses
in the MD degree program
Policy on Academic and Professional Standards Governing the MD degree program Chapter 1, Section 3.5

Students enrolled in the MD degree curriculum of the West Virginia University School of Medicine may receive evaluations in grade or narrative that are designated as Unsatisfactory. In the case of an Unsatisfactory (U) evaluation, the Committee on Academic and Professional Standards will require, at the very least, that the student repeat and pass the course.

The standard method for repeating a course because of an Unsatisfactory evaluation is to do so with the faculty in the School of Medicine the next time the course is offered, including offerings during the summer session or on other campuses of the School of Medicine

The Committee on Academic and Professional Standards will evaluate the circumstances that may result in an exception to this policy to allow a student to repeat a failed course at another accredited medical school in the United States accredited by the LCME, provided the course meets the approval of the appropriate course coordinator and the Associate Dean for Student Services. These may include offerings during the summer session. The Committee on Academic and Professional Standards will recommend such exceptions to the Dean who may accept, reject or modify these recommendations.

Approved by MD Degree Committee on Academic and Professional Standards, December 1996
Approved by Dean D'Alessandri, January 1997
