Visiting Medical Student Rotation Policy The West Virginia University School of Medicine does not accept any third year medical students for rotations from other medical schools. We have limited capacity and will not jeopardize the learning experience for our own students to accommodate visiting students. Any non-WVU fourth year medical students from LCME accredited medical schools must be cleared through the Office of Student Services PRIOR to being accepted here for a rotation. In general, we will only allow 2 months of rotations for visiting students. It is our policy to place in desired rotations our own Morgantown, Charleston, and Eastern campus based students first. Once these placements have been made we will accommodate those non-WVU students on a space available basis. There is a large amount of paperwork involved including verification of enrollment at a medical school, and obtaining letters of reference, proof of insurance, proof of immunizations, etc. Faculty should not accept or promise to accept visiting students on rotations prior to contacting our office. A number of international medical students contact our offices yearly with requests to rotate on our campuses. In general this practice is discouraged because the paperwork is even more cumbersome, and the students often want to stay for extended periods, thus blocking the opportunity for students trained in LCME accredited medical schools from rotating with us. These international students must have a WVU faculty member sponsor who will be responsible for ALL bills, housing, liabilities, legalities, etc, during their stay. Departments with previously arranged agreements with international medical schools may continue to do so. Please share this information with your faculty and advise them when contacted by a non-WVU student for a rotation to direct the student to the Office of Student Services. We have had continued problems with faculty accepting outside students for rotations without our knowledge.
