MISSION STATEMENT:

The purpose of this organization shall be to help medical students at the West Virginia University School of Medicine to promote a safe environment that embraces and respects people of all backgrounds without regard to: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, gender, religion, sexual orientation, educational background, physical and mental ability, cultural preferences and traditions, veteran status, native language, accent, or age.

We believe that these values of tolerance and understanding are especially important in the doctor-patient relationship and the relationship between colleagues. We hope to facilitate these professional values through focused discussion workshops, increased awareness and visibility of diversity issues, and clinician speakers who can share their approaches to creating a safe space for diverse individuals in a professional environment. In the future, we hope that these priorities can be integrated into the curriculum on a school-wide basis.
