Welcome to the WVU SoM Preventive Medicine Interest Group (PMIG) webpage! Do you wish that you could put your books aside, shut down your laptop, and instead, spend some time helping others? You don’t have to wait until licensure before you can begin making a difference in people’s lives. That is the belief of our members.

Purpose

Our purpose is to promote prevention and wellness in our community (WVU SoM, HSC, Morgantown).

Previous/Current Projects:

Student-friendly Cookbook Compile healthy, simple recipes for busy students into a free .pdf cookbook. Boys and Girls Club After playing with the children for an afternoon, we talk to them about a topic of wellness, such as the benefits of exercise, and provide healthy snacks, such as fresh fruit. HSC Wellness Letter Contribute articles for this monthly publication. Tobacco-free campus PMIG involvement in helping HSC campus and Ruby go smoke free on 11/19/09. Walking Wednesdays Walked around Ruby/football stadium for 30 minutes during lunch. Healthy Study Snacks Provided healthy study snacks to MS1 class last year. Basketball hoop Working to erect a basketball hoop on the HSC campus to promote exercise. Posters Designing awareness posters concerning the caloric benefits of taking the stairs, information on the flu and other health topics. Hand Sanitizer Project Seeking to place a waterless hand sanitizer dispenser outside of the small HSC cafeteria. Administer flu shots Administer flu shots to the general public at the WVU Recreation Center.
