Sports Medicine Interest Group

Basic Info:
The Sports Medicine Interest Group provides information and experience to medical students who are interested in sports medicine related health care. The organization seeks to provide students with insight on Sports Medicine Fellowships and to inform students on the pathways that exist to pursue a career in sports medicine.

Goals:
1. Educate medical students in the major issues dealing with current sports related injuries/illness and the most recent treatment options for these injuries.
2. To provide students with practical experience in treating these injuries.
2. Inform students of the career options available for those interested in working with sports related injuries.
3. Provide information about service as a physician for sports teams.

Bylaws:

1. Sports Medicine Interest group is a non-profit student run organization associated with West Virginia University School of Medicine. Membership is open to all students currently enrolled in West Virginia School of Medicine.

2. The SMIG aims to meet monthly or bimonthly throughout the school year, or more often if decided upon by the governing members.

3. The SMIG will be governed by medical students elected to the following positions: President and Vice-President. Additional elected positions may be added at the discretion of the governing members.

4. SMIG elections will be held during the final meeting of each school year or in other necessary situations.

5. The SMIG will work with a sports medicine faculty mentor of West Virginia University Hospitals.
