Early Decision Program for Admission to MD degree
Applicants who have excellent credentials, are not awaiting a repeat MCAT, and are certain that the WVU School of Medicine is their choice may apply through the Early Decision Program. The primary application through AMCAS must be completed by August 1st. MCAT's must be taken no later than mid-July so that score may be available for appropriate review.
These applicants may only apply to one school, in this case the WVU School of Medicine. The candidate will be interviewed at the end of September and notified by October 1st of the Committee on Admissions decision. Applicants who are not accepted for Early Decision may be reconsidered later in the regular applicant pool and may also apply to other medical schools. This process should not be considered as an opportunity to double your chances for admission.
The requirements to participate in the Early Decision Program include a minimum Science GPA of 3.5 as calculated by AMCAS and MCAT's of 8 or higher in each area for residents of West Virginia, and a minimum Science GPA of 3.6 as calculated by AMCAS and at least a 9 or higher in each area of the MCAT for non- resident applicants.
Those candidates accepted as early decision applicants will be guaranteed scholarship assistance during the program, provided that they maintain good academic and professional standing.
