Clinical Performance Examination (CPX) Policy

Beginning with those graduating after January 1, 2005, candidates for the MD degree must take and pass the School of Medicine Clinical Performance Exam (CPX). This exam will be scheduled by the Office of Studen Services. The exam is desgined to be comprehensive of all the clinical disciplines covered during the third year of the curriculum, and will be administered during the fourth year of the curriculum. It is an OSCE style examination, using standardized patients.

Satisfactory completion of the school based Clinical Performance Exam (CPX) within three attempts is required for graduation.

Beginning with those graduating after June 30, 2008:

  • All failures of the CPX will be reported to the Committee on Academic and Professional Standards.
  • The Committee on Academic and Professional Standards will recommend to the Dean the appropriate remediation to take place prior to any repeat administration of the CPX.
  • The School of Medicine will be responsible for all usual and customary fees necesssary for each student's first and second CPX administration.
  • Student will be responsible for all usual and customary fees necessary for administration of any CPX beyond the first two attempts.
  • Three failures of the CPX will result in the student's automatic dismissal from the School of Medicine.
