G. Anne Cather, MD
Associate Dean
G. Anne Cather, MD was appointed as Associate Dean of Student Services and Professional Development in August 1999. She is a Professor of Family Medicine, and previously served as the Department’s Interim Chair. Clinically, she sees patients at the University Health Service as well as in the newly developed Center of Excellence for Women’s Health. She also serves as the Executive Director for the Oman Project, a collaborative agreement to help the Omani people develop a private medical college based on a western medical school curriculum.
Dr. Cather is a Morgantown native and obtained her undergraduate degree in Medical Technology at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. She worked at Webster Springs Hospital after graduation and served as the lab director prior to starting medical school. She was graduated from WVU School of Medicine in 1983 and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed a residency in Family Medicine at WVU after interrupting her residency to work as a Research Associate in the Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia.
Previously, Dr. Cather was elected to the Board of Directors of the West Virginia University Medical Corporation (University Health Associates) by the faculty. She is the only woman to have served as Chair of the Board. She also completed a fellowship in ELAM (Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine). She serves as the adviser to the local AMWA (American Medicine Women’s Associations) and a co-advisor to the WVU AED (Alpha Epsilon Delta), pre-medical honorary at West Virginia University. She is also Chairman of the Board of the West Virginia Chapter of Family Physicians and serves as an alternate delegate to the Family Medicine National Congress.
