Circa Terra Group
Mission and Goals
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - M. K. Gandhi
This as an invitation for you to become a part of a new student organization at the West Virginia University School of Medicine called Circa Terra (Latin phrase for "around the world") and it is in this spirit that Circa Terra was created to lend its hand in addressing the medical needs of developing nations. Circa Terra will provide a means for persons to become involved in an international effort to export surplus medical supplies that will in turn be distributed to hospitals and clinics in dire need around the world.
The main purpose of our organization is to lend our leadership, resourcefulness, and compassion to a global cause. We intend to collect surplus medical supplies from throughout Ruby Memorial Hospital and in collaboration with Global Links, a distribution center in Pittsburgh, export these items to hospitals and clinics in developing nations in need of such articles. The medical supplies we speak of are those that would otherwise be thrown away and incinerated by the hospital because they had been opened but not used for hospital procedures. The amount of materials wasted in this manner each year is enormous, and through the efforts of Circa Terra we can put these materials to good use.
