July 2007 - The SOM receives noficitaion from the LCME of full reaccrediation with the next full survey site visit scheduled for academic year 2014-2015.
March 2007 - Congratulations to the Class of 2007 for their 100% pass rate on USMLE Step 2 CS ! This marks the second year in a row that our students have demonstrated such achievement on this national clinical skills exam.
March 2007 - Julie Balch Samora, MD/PhD student has been slected by the AMA Foundation as one of 50 students nationally for a 2007 leadership award.
February 2007 - Dr. David Wilks, MD is appointed as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, succeeding Dr. Gary Loyd, MD. Dr. Wilks is also an Assistant Dean and the Director of the WVU School of Medicine Simulation Center.
January 2007 - WVU Hospitals has been designated a "Center of Excellence" by NeuroSource, Inc following an external review of the Neurology and Neurosurgery programs. We are the only location in WV earning this designation. The School of Medicine has ACGME accredited residency training programs in Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuroradiology and Neurosurgery.
October 2006 - The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award to the WVU School of Medicine. This is a top honor. Governor Manchin, President Hardesty, and AAMC President Kirsch, will be on campus in early November to pay tribute to the school for this honor. http://www.aamc.org/newsroom/awards/westvirginia.htm
August 2006 - Dean Prescott announces the appointment of Norman Ferrari, MD as the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education. He will be responsible for the entire educational continuum for the MD degree including admissions, curriculum, accreditation, graduate medical education, and continuing medical education.
April 2006 -The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) selected WVU School of Medicine as one of six schools in the nation for a grant for their proposed "Cover the Uninsured Week" program. Special thanks to Jodie Posey, Chara Freeman and Tracey Mehlman and our OSR representative Kane Maiers for their hard work in applying for the grant. Another step towards national recognition!
March 31, 2006 - SOM ranks 12th in nation by US News & World Report in Rural Medicine.

March 2006 - WVUH becomes first hospital in WV to obtain a daVinci robot for surgery, bringing this new technology to our operating rooms and training programs.

January 16, 2006 - Giovanni Piedimonte, MD begins his WVU SOM career as the sixth Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. He is a pulmonologist and joins us from the University of Miami.

November 21, 2005 - The Office of the Dean has relocated to Health Sciences South on the first floor. You can locate them by entering the building near the Puskar Breast Care Center.

November 8, 2005 - Kane Maiers, Class of 2008, and SOM representative to the Organization of Student Representatives (OSR) of the AAMC, was elected as a national delegate to the OSR.
