AOA ELECTIONS: CONGRATULATIONS to the new members of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. The newly elected members from the Class of 2003 are: Rebecca Burbridge, William Corey, Val Gibson, Stephen Howell, Amy Lee, Bryan Pukenas, JR Romanowski, Brad Strauch, Sara Walker, and Lisa Wood.
COMMUNITY SERVICE SOLE SITE has been successfully merged with the former demographic page information. Review your personal information through SOLE. Contact Pam Carico, pcarico@hsc.wvu.edu if there are problems/discrepancies. Seniors are reminded that 100 hours must be entered prior to graduation.
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE: Student Services is collecting pop can tabs for Ronald McDonald House. Please save your tabs and bring to our office for Ronald's Kids! This project raises over $900/month to help support the operations of this Home away from Home.

What's Happening this Week - Morgantown:
EMERGENCY MEDICINE INTEREST GROUP: The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 11, noon-1:00 p.m., Pathology Amphitheater. All students are invited.
SURGERY INTEREST GROUP MEETING: There will be a meeting on Thursday, September 12, 2002 from noon - 1:00 p.m. in room 2118 Path Amp.
9/11 IS A "DAY OF SPECIAL CONCERN": Dr. Rosemary Haggett, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, has posted a memo to the intranet reminding instructional staff about the WVU policy regarding "Days of Special Concern.." The memo also contains information indicating that faculty are asked to treat Sept. 11 as a Day of Special Concern. The item can be found at: http://intranet.wvu.edu/provost/

COMPUTER FEE PAYMENT DEADLINE: Friday, September 13.
MED PUB CLASS AVAILABLE: The Orientation program this year did not provide time for a "Pub Med" computer course. Students have previously found this training valuable during their medical school career as they work through various research processes. Pub Med relates to other databases from the National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health. The Computer-Based Learning Center is offering two courses this fall that fit well into your official schedule: Friday, October 25 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. or Thursday, November 14, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. If you wish to register, call 293-6128 (CBLC) between the hours of 9 and 12, Monday through Friday.

Community Service Opportunities:
American Heart Walk: This annual community fund-raising event in Charleston will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 8:30 am, on the grounds of the State Capitol. Funds raised go to fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke. If you would like to be involved in this event, please contact Angela Mayfield at 965-7998. The earlier you call, the more variety of volunteer areas you will have from which to choose.

NATIONAL MEDICAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM IN ACADEMIC MEDICINE FOR MINORITY STUDENTS: Applications for this fellowship program are available in the Office of Student Services (Morgantown and Charleston) for first thru third year students who are members of the following under represented groups: African-American/blacks, mainland Puerto Ricans, Mexican-Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiian. MD/PhD candidates are also eligible to complete for these fellowships. www.nmfonline.org .
