FAMILY HAPPENINGS:CONGRATULATIONS to Miranda Wang, MSIV Charleston for her part in the article published in Volume 17 of "Endocrine" along with others in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Marshall University School of Medicine. The article is titled, "Glucocorticoid Inhibition of 235-1 Rat Pituitary Tumor Cycle Progression."

CURRENT NATIONAL STATE OF ALERT: Today the Federal Government today elevated the terrorist threat level in the U.S. to orange, putting the country and American interests abroad at "high risk of terrorist attacks." In response, the Office of Student Services has re-activated last year's Emergency Contact list. In the event of an emergency, the Morgantown and Charleston Associate Deans and/or Office of Student Services will rely on your class officers for distribution of information. Third and Fourth year officers will be contacted via their beepers. First and Second year officers will be contacted via their home phone number and/or the Class Officers' Beeper. FINANCIAL RE-EVALUATION AT THE HSC: Attached is a Memo from Dean D'Alessandri outlining work being done by the Priority Action Team (PAT) these past months to access the financial evaluation of programs at the Health Sciences Center. The Office of Student Services will be experiencing budget reductions .
WVU POLICE asking University community to be vigilant in wake of thefts: The WVU Department of Public Safety is asking members of the campus community to be alert for suspicious activity and report any theft or suspected crime immediately as police investigate a series of LCD projector thefts. DPS would also like to inform all University employees about free engraving of office equipment and personal property as a part of the WVU "Operation Identification" program. The "Operation ID" engraving program helps to deter theft, and this free service can be scheduled by calling Lt. Randy Friend, 293-2677 or 293-COPS.

This is for catering purposes only. If you have not done this, you will not be admitted to the Tent! What's Happening this Week - Morgantown:
September 11 REMEMBRANCE: The WVUH Pastoral Care Department will hold a brief interfaith service on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to remember the victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as well as the crash of Flight 93 in Somerset County, Pa. The 15- to 20-minute service will be held at 12 p.m., outside, on the sidewalk area near the hospital's West Lobby. The Pastoral Care staff is available to provide counseling for individuals. Employees can call 598-4000, Ext. 4185, to make arrangements to meet with a chaplain. They can also page the chaplain on-call at 0590. In addition to the service being held at Ruby, Father Paul Hudock and Chaplain Matthew Riegel will hold a prayer service in the Health Sciences Hostler Auditorium at 12:05 p.m. on Sept. 11. Class Notes:
PHOTO ID BADGE REPLACEMENTS: If your badge is lost and needs replaced, the charge is $10.00. Students are to contact the Office of Student Services; the Office will then confirm your request to Facilities. In most cases, as repeat photo will not be necessary. Facilities will email you when the photo badge is ready for pick-up at their office, at which time you will pay them for the replacement.

NRMP has updated the Registration of the Applicant User Guide to reflect the enhancements made to the Registration, Ranking and Results (R3) System for the 2003 Main Match. FIELD TRIP: March 14, 2003. Students will depart from the WVU Coliseum and ride the buses to Charleston. The buses will depart at 7:30 a.m. and return around 7 p.m. You will be touring all the different facilities on the Charleston Campus.

REMEMBERING September 11TH, 2001: As we face the one-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, CAMC has planned activities to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attacks on our country. Special Prayer Services will be held at each hospital: General Rooms 101-102 at
10am;Memorial Chapel at 12noon; W&C Chapel at 12noon. There will be a display table at W&C from 10am-2pm with educational information for parents of children of all ages, "Pay It Forward" Ribbons to share with others and the opportunity to take part in creating a "Helping Hand" quilt to be donated to a local Fire Department in memory of those lost.
CAMC ANNUAL PICNIC: Thursday, September 19, 6-8:30pm, Maier Village. Immediate family welcome.
RESEARCH LUNCH AND LEARN: The next Research Lunch and Learn will be held Wednesday, September 18, from noon - 1 p.m. and is entitled, "Current Issues in Nursing Research," by Cynthia Persily, PhD, RN. It may be viewed in Rooms 101 and 102 at General Hospital, the Board Room at Women and Children's Hospital and by "live" lecture in Room 2000 of the WVU Building next door to Memorial Hospital. Lunch is available in all 3 cafeterias for 30 cents on that day in celebration of CAMC's 30th anniversary. Bring your lunch and join the group!

Community Service Opportunities:
American Lung Association Walk: Saturday, September 14, 2002. Registration is at 8am walk begins at 9am. Money raised goes to asthma research with part going directly to research in Morgantown. If interested in walking for community service hours contact: Michael Wolfe at mwolfe3@mix.wvu.edu or page him at 388-8250-0930. There is a possibility of earning up to 9 hours community service hours. American Heart Walk: This annual community fund-raising event in Charleston will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 8:30am, on the grounds of the State Capitol. Funds raised go to fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke. If you would like to be involved in this event, please contact Angela Mayfield at 965-7998. The earlier you call, the more variety of volunteer areas you will have from which to choose.

WVU/MORGANTOWN 9/11 REMEMBRANCE ACTIVITIES:
WVU will join with the City of Morgantown Wednesday to remember the first anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a host of solemn activities ranging from a sunset candlelight vigil in Woodburn Circle to an afternoon tree planting near a Temporary Memorial Wall outside the Downtown Campus Library. THE 44TH ANNUAL NATIONAL STUDENT RESEARCH FORUM: The Forum will be held at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, from Thursday, April 3rd to Saturday April 5th, 2003. <http://www2.utmb.edu/nsrf/main.htm>. The primary purpose of the National Student Research Forum is to provide a national scientific assembly, planned and managed by students for presentation of research by medical students, graduate students, interns, and residents in the biomedical sciences. The Forum provides an opportunity for young health scientists to receive critical analysis and recognition of their research efforts from established scientists.
