FAMILY HAPPENINGS:
WELCOME Charissa Atkinson to the Office of Student Services Charleston Campus who joins the staff as Program Assistant. Amongst her duties Charissa will oversee MSIII and MSIV curriculum scheduling.

AOA AWARDS, SCHOLARSHIPS, FELLOWSHIPS: Open to all medical students Medical Student Service Project Award, Student Essay Award, Student Research Award Fellowship. To learn more about these awards go to the Student Services Web Page, under organizations, Alpha Omega Alpha National Link. We have had students win these national awards before. This is an excellent way to build a great CV for residency applications.

AMWA: The American Medical Women's Assoc. offers a number of student benefits to women medical students. (Medical Education Loans, Community Service Scholarship, Research Paper Award, Mentoring Award, Bed and Breakfast Program). What's Happening this Week - Morgantown:

AMWA: Meeting, Wednesday, November 13, 2002 HAS BEEN CANCELED.

BLOOD DRIVE will be held Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in John Jones 1, 2 and 3. Please call 598-4118 to schedule an appointment. All who donate entered into raffle for $100 grocery store gift certificate; drawing held Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. Two hours of community service hours are approved for each donation.

REGISTRATION: Student Services offices are preparing for Spring Registration. Make sure ALL possible registration restrictions are taken care of, e.g. parking, bursar, library.

Newman Club: Newman students are sponsoring two events this week open to all students: Tuesday, Nov 12th at 8 PM in Newman Hall downtown will be a chance to hear from Basketball coach Bielien, and on Sunday, Nov 16th from 4:30 to 6 PM in Potters Cellar a spaghetti dinner, all you can eat for $2.

OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE FACULTY: Dr. James Brick, Chair, Department of Internal Medicine, is in need of parking assistance for his Christmas Party. Please see notice attached and respond to Lori if interested.

STEP 1 APPLICATIONS: Access this application through www.nbme.org . You will complete Part A online, and bring Part B to our office with picture and check. We will sign/seal. Applications are mailed the 1st and 15th of each month. The School of Medicine deadline is March 15, 2003.

Community Service Opportunities:
AOA is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. This will be held outside the Bookstore from Noon-1:00pm, Monday through Friday, November 11-22, 2002. If you are interested in community service hours contact Lisa Wood at lwood@mix.wvu.edu.

FAMILY MEDICINE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: A newly developed program to address needs in the Clark K. Sleeth Family Medicine Center. See the attached brochure for details. This program is approved for community service hours. If you are interested, contact Kim Tonkovich, Ruby Hospital, 598-4134, etc. 4014.

RESEARCH LUNCH AND LEARN: Wednesday, November 20, noon. Topic: "Ethical Status Study: Physician-Patient Communication and Patient Rights," presented by Paul Hall, PhD., Greg Rosencrance, M.D. and Greg Clarke, M.D. It may be viewed in Rooms 101 and 102 at General, the Board Room at W&C's and by "live" lecture in Room 2000 of the WVU Building next door to Memorial. RSVP to 388-9960 to be included in the lunch count. Lunch will be provided at all sites.

LONGITUDINAL WORKSHOP: Monday, November 18, 1:30 pm until 4:30 pm, 4th floor WVU Building. The workshop will deal with end-of-life issues. Your course coordinator has been advised that you will be attending and are to be excused from rotation.

Community Service Opportunities:
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF SOUTH CHARLESTON: Beginning Saturday, November 16 from 10am to 4pm, and one Saturday a month thereafter through January volunteers are needed to help pack and sort supplies in preparation for a medical mission to Haiti.
