FAMILY HAPPENINGS:
WELCOME CLASS OF 2012 to the Message of the Week! If you are reviewing your MIX email already, you are now receiving the first of your every-Tuesday message from the Office of Student Services. Make it your habit to read through this Message every Tuesday evening for important information. It is divided into four sections - General announcements for all students; Morgantown Campus students (which includes both ALL first and second year students); Charleston clinical students (current
third and fourth); Eastern clinical students (current third and fourth).

ALL STUDENTS: Remember to read the MOW every Tuesday and respond promptly. Pay particular attention to the NOTICES, EVENTS, and Class notices in your campus section.

NOTICES:
FALL SESSION: Tuition charges have posted to your MIX account. CAREFULLY review your account/registration status/ financial aid/mailing address. Financial Aid disbursement is expected August 15. Tuition payment deadline is August 15. Contact your Student Services Offices with registration questions.

FINANCIAL AID QUESTIONS? Confirm your mailing address through MIX - STAR - MALA (mailing address). Did you "Accept your loans" online thru MIX? Questions, contact Financial Aid, 293-3706.

PIT PARKING PERMIT FOR RETURNING STUDENTS IN MORGANTOWN? If you are still in need of a parking pass for the PIT because you did not renew online in May, you must now go to the Parking Office at the Prete Building. 7:30-4:30 Monday-Friday. Required - 700#, copy of car registration, checks, Visa, MC, mountybounty, money order accepted. Returning MD student in need of new PIT access - stop in Student Services for your required approval card.

TICKETING FOR ILLEGAL PARKING IN THE PIT BEGINS Monday, August 18!

CHANGES TO WEST VIRGINIA LOCAL PHONE CALLS: ALL local calls now require 10-digit dialing. Those who forget and dial only seven digits will still be connected until Aug. 10. The 10-digit dialing requirement is a response to the West Virginia Public Service Commission approval of a new 681 area code assigned to new phone numbers in West Virginia starting next year. At that time, new numbers may be assigned a 681 or 304 area code. http://oit.wvu.edu/telecom/dialing.php

FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THIRD AND FOURTH YEAR STUDENTS: NHSC SEARCH
Program stipend...if approved, you will receive $75/day for conducting an expanded community project on an off-site (rural) rotation in West Virginia. For 4 weeks, this totals $1,500, and there is no employment obligation attached to this stipend. See Attached for details.

EVENTS:
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE FUND RAISER: Wednesday August 6 and Thursday August 7; a Luau and Links event at the Pines Country Club to further the mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Information attached for sponsorship and attendance.

FIRST YEAR ORIENTATION begins Monday, August 11 with Orientation Adventures! 7:45 am Registration, Learning Center Foyer.

TOWN HALL MEETING: “The Changing Face of Academic Health Centers” As a part of our ongoing discussion of the future of the WVU Health Sciences Center, we will welcome Dr. Steven A. Wartman, President of the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) to our next Town Hall Meeting Wednesday, August 13, from noon to 1 p.m. in the HSC Auditorium.
Connectivity will be provided to the Charleston and Eastern Divisions. http://intranet.hsc.wvu.edu/temppages/071008Message.pdf ) The Joint Planning Group will engage national experts who have experience assisting academic medical centers navigate through processes of change. The AAHC last year distributed an article he wrote which succinctly summarizes some of the organizational issues facing organizations like ours across the country. It is available online at:

MS 4/Class of 2009:
GTR 3 - THE INTERVIEW: is set on the Morgantown Campus for Tuesday, September 2, 3-6 pm, and Mon, Oct 13, 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Information will be presented on interviewing skills, and mock interviews will be setup with faculty in areas similar to your chosen field. Students from all Campus' are invited to participate. An October date on the Charleston Campus will soon be posted. If you are interested in attending one of the Morgantown sessions, please RSVP via this email and specify the date
as well as your desired residency program. One week prior to the program you will be required to submit to our office a CV and Personal Statement.

MS 1/Class of 2012:
WELCOME! We look forward to meeting you Monday, August 11, Orientation Adventures - 7:45 am, Registration - Learning Center Foyer. Thoroughly review your orientation material mailed to you last month.

PARKING: As per packet information - PIT parking is available to you this week. We will provide permit cards for new applicants during Orientation. You will have at least one free morning/afternoon to visit the Parking Office prior to August 18th.

What's Happening This Week - Charleston:
CLASS NOTES:
WELCOME - BOWLING NIGHT We are planning a "Welcome to Charleston" Bowling Night for Wed, August 13, 2008 from 6-8 PM at Venture Lanes in St. Albans. Both MSIII and MSIV Students as well as Charleston Division Faculty, Clerkship Directors and Clerkship Coordinators will be in attendance. We will cover the cost of the lanes for two hours and shoe
rental along with coupons for cash to be redeemed for dinner in the food court. We strongly encourage all new MSIII students to attend as well as those MSIV's who are in town. We must have RSVP's to determine the number of lanes to rent (5 bowlers per lane). RSVP's will be collected by the following: Carolyn Wilhelm, VP, C/O 2009 Brent Hardman, President, C/O 2010 Tad Nair, VP, C/O 2010 Rachael Trout, Student Services. Annual Resident Picnic - The picnic is planned for Thursday, August 21st, 2008 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Maier Village. Great food and good music are planned for the event. Please see flyer attached.

MS3/Eastern Class of 2010:
Dinner with the Dean- You and your guest are invited to have Dinner with Dr. and Mrs. Shirley Jacques at their home. The sign-up sheets for one of three dates will be posted in the large classroom. The dates for the dinners are Sun. Sept. 14, Tues. Sept 16th and Sunday, Sept. 21st. There is a limit of 8 people per evening.

The Family/Spouse orientation program has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 5th beginning at 11:45am here at the RCB building. Tell your family to look for the invitation in the mail.
