What's Happening this Week - Morgantown:

The Emergency Medicine Interest Group will be meeting Tuesday, Sept 9, for a hands-on Airway Management workshop. There will be a presentation followed by intubation practice on dummies. Please RSVP to emig@gmail.com .

The Family Medicine Interest Group would like to invite all medical students to a picnic on Friday, September 19th at 5:30 PM at Krepps Park. Third and fourth years are also encouraged to attend and find out more about the residency program. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to lstiles1@mix.wvu.edu by Friday, September 12th.

MS 4/Class of 2009:
STILL NEED MS4 STUDENTS NEEDED TO SUPERVISE MS2 PPD ADMINISTRATION: School Service available for this project. Friday, September 12, 2:30-4 pm. If you are available, please RSVP this email.

HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Award: $20,000. Fourth year students who are planning on entering primary care internships or residency programs (Family Medicine, General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, Med-Peds, OB/GYN, and General Psychiatry) in WV are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Please see Brenda Michael, Office of Student Services, for application packets.
Application Deadline: October 15, 2008.

MERLIN TRAINING: Hold selected dates your calendars for MS4 training being set prior to the January 17 Go Live date. Options include: Monday, November 24, Friday, December 5, Monday, December 8 and Friday, January 9. These will be 7 hour sessions beginning at 7 am. Registration will be available at a later date online through Ruby Net Learning. We will keep you posted on the details.

GTR 3 - THE INTERVIEW: is set on the Morgantown Campus Mon, Oct 13, 2:00 - 5:00 pm. RSVP via this email, specify desired residency program.

MS 3/Class of 2010:
CLINICAL SKILLS WORKSHOP scheduled for Monday, September 22nd. ATTENDANCE REQUIRED. Laptop fees will be collected at that time.

MERLIN TRAINING: Plans are being made for your Merlin Training Monday, November 17, as the Block 3 Clinical Skills Workshop. This will be a 7 hour session; dinner provided; e-courses required prior to the training. Watch for further details.

MS 2/ Class of 2011:
MS2 ORIENTATION Friday, September 12, 2-5 pm, 1909. ATTENDANCE REQUIRED. Bring Laptops. PPDs will be administered and laptop fees will be collected on the 12th.

MATCH REGISTRATION: Applicant registration for the 2009 Main Residency Match opens at 12:00 noon eastern time on Friday, August 15, 2008. To register for the 2009 Match, login to www.nrmp.org , click on the Register/Login button at the top of the screen. THIS PROCESS IS IN ADDITION TO YOUR ERAS. You must be in BOTH systems to successfully secure a residency position.

GTR 3 - THE INTERVIEW: is set on the Morgantown Campus Mon, Oct 13, 2:00 - 5:00 pm. Information will be presented on interviewing skills, and mock interviews will be setup with faculty in areas similar to your chosen field. Students from all Campus' are invited to participate. An October date on the Charleston Campus will soon be posted. If you are interested in attending one of the Morgantown sessions, please RSVP via this email and specify the date as well as your desired residency program. One week prior to the program you will be required to submit to our office a CV and Personal Statement.

Community Service Opportunities:
Help Charleston Division Circa Terra by taking up boxes to Pittsburgh. You will be able to earn 4 hours of community service. Please let Maryam Jame know if you are interested. mjame@mix.wvu.edu

Health Sciences Scholarship Program (HSSP)
HSSP, established by the WV Legislature in 1995, provides a scholarship incentive for students in the state's higher education system to complete their training and provide primary care in underserved rural areas of West Virginia. If interested, packets are available in Student Services.

Dinner with the Dean

Students and a guest are invited to have dinner with Dr and Mrs. Jacques at their home in September. The sign-up sheets for the dates are posted in the large classroom. The dates for the dinners are Sun., Sept. 14th and Sun., Sept. 21st. There is a limit of 8 people per evening. The deadline to sign up for the first dinner is Sept. 5th.

Wellness Center

If you have not yet had your picture taken or picked up your scan key at the Wellness Center, you will be denied access to the gym facilities. Please stop by the front counter and have these items taken care of.

H & P's

All H & P’s that have been graded and completed are to be placed in your folder in the Student Services office. Please work on these throughout the semester to ensure the required number of H & P's is completed by the end of the semester.

Mid-Term Schedule Switches

Please be advised that the mid-term preceptor switch begins Sept. 15th. Schedules will be distributed one week prior. Performance evaluation forms will be handed out to each of you on Sept. 5th. You will be responsible for delivering them to your current preceptors during the week of Sept. 8-12th. Please ask preceptors to complete and review with you, and return them to Michelle in Student Services.
