What's Happening this Week - Morgantown:
FAMILY MEDICINE INTEREST GROUP is sponsoring a field trip to Preston County on Saturday, Oct. 25 to visit 2 rural clinics and Preston Memorial Hospital. The day's activities will include a program about starting a rural practice, a tour of Preston Memorial Hospital, a lecture about critical access care from the CEO of PMH, and a clinical skills workshop. Students will meet at the HSC at 8:30am to car pool. MS1 students participating can earn community shadowing credit for PDCI (sign-up online). Please RSVP to lstiles1@mix.wvu.edu by Friday, Oct. 17.

HEALTH EXPO OPPORTUNITY THROUGH FAMILY MEDICINE: Bone density screening from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm 1 hour shifts; helpers needed to operate the ultrasound screening machine and explain results (will train); community service hours credit. Complete attached sign-up sheet by Thursday, October 9 and return to Susan Biser, bisers@rcbhsc.wvu.edu
HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Award: $20,000. Fourth year students who are planning on entering primary care internships or residency programs (Family Medicine, General Pediatrics, General Internal Medicine, Med-Peds, OB/GYN, and General Psychiatry) in WV are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Please see Brenda Michael, Office of Student Services, for application packets. Application Deadline: October 15, 2008.

Orientation for Free Clinic Assignment during Mini-Weeks- Fri. Oct. 17th, 11:30am- 12:30pm. Lunch included. Overview of Eastern Panhandle Free clinic operation and student expectations. Both Osler and Cushing students attend.
Happy Hour Lecture- Monday, Nov. 10, 6:30pm, ED, large classroom, “Bowel Obstructions” , Speaker, Dr. Jan Kletter, MD. Dinner provided.
Ms. Etel Wheeler will begin teaching medical Spanish lessons on Oct. 17. Classes will be held from 12-1:00pm on 6 consecutive Fridays. Please bring your lunch. In January, she will be teaching 6 additional lessons that will be a continuation of the first class. All third & fourth year students are invited to attend. Please bring a small pocket English/Spanish dictionary.
