MORGANTOWN FLU SHOT CLNIICS: Please consider getting your seasonal flu shot this fall. There will be free shots given to students at HSC on 9/22 from 7:00AM-6:00PM and at the Recreation Center from 3:00PM-7:00PM on 9/28 and 10/6. Free shot clinics for students for the Novel H1N1 flu will be given in October- stay tuned for more information.

HELP FOR FLU SHOT CLNICS : Student Health still needs 2 medical student volunteers to help with the Oct 6 clinic at the Rec Center from 3:00- 7:00PM. Contact Ms. Andersen, RN at 304-293-6246, and leave your name and contact phone #. Community Service hours given.

AMA GRANTS AND AWARDS FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS: See attached.

CHANGE IN PROCESSING OF ENROLLMENT VERIFICATION FORMS – NOW ONLINE:  The University is now processing all enrollment verifications online with the National Clearinghouse Site thru MIX.   Submit all requests for your enrollment verification through MIX – STAR – Student - Services, Housing, and Financial Aid – Registration – Request NSC Enrollment Verification.  Print a copy for your records.

EVENTS:

FOOTBALL TENT!  Mark your calendars and watch for the official invitation in the weeks to come – Thursday, October 1, evening game- ESPN – Colorado vs WVU.  You and one guest invited!  Let’s GOOOOOOOO Mountaineers!!!!!!!!

HSC RURAL HEALTH FAIR:  Mark your calendars and plan on attending.  Site Coordinators from all WV Rural Consortiums will be present to speak with you about what their area has to offer.  Tuesday, November 17 th, 12:30-4:30 pm.

DECEMBER GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR THE CLASS OF 2009: Saturday, December 12, 2009, 1:30 pm.  Health Science Center Okey Patteson Auditorium.  More details to come.

American Medical Student Association (AMSA) will be holding it's introductory meeting on September 10th from 12 noon to 1 PM in the Fukushima Auditorium.

AMSA upcoming events:
October 5th: AMSA Medical Equipment Sale from 12 PM to 4 PM- Location to be announced

November 10th: AMSA "What the Heck Does that Mean?" Lunch lecture with Dr. John Guilfoose 12 noon in Room 1901

American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA):   The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) invites you to join us for a picnic on Thursday, 9/10 at 12pm. The Emergency Medicine Interest Group will hold an Intubation Workshop at noon this Monday, Sept 14, in John E Jones-B. It will include instruction and practice on mannequins. Please RSVP to wvuemig@gmail.com.

The first ENT Interest Group meeting of the year will be at 4 pm on Tuesday, September 15 th in the ENT conference room. Dr. Wilkinson will give a presentation about ENT as a career. All are invited to attend. Please RSVP to shester@mix.wvu.edu.

MS 4/Class of 2010:

ERAS APPLICATION SYSTEM  has opened and is now receiving your applications.  If your application is ready – SUBMIT.  DO NOT DELAY.  Letters of Rec and Transcripts are added as received and should not prevent you from pushing that button!

2009 – 2010 HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP:   $20,000 for fourth year medical students who are planning to enter primary care internships or residency programs in West Virginia.  See attached HSSP Poster for info and web site address for online application.  Deadline: October 15, 2009. 

GETTING TO RESIDENCY ( GTR 3) - THE INTERVIEW - Information will be presented on interviewing skills, and mock interviews will be setup with faculty in areas similar to your chosen field. Students from all Campus' are invited to participate. If you are interested in attending one of the sessions, please RSVP via this email and specify the date as well as your desired residency program. One week prior to the program you will be required to submit to our office a CV and Personal Statement.

Family and Spouse Orientation Program for all Eastern Campus Medical Students will be held at the Eastern Division, Friday, Sept.,25, from 9:00am-12:00noon. Lunch will be provided for students and their families. The program will include presentations by the deans, tour of the hospital and an overview of the medical curriculum. Please RSVP to Michelle in Student Services by Tu. Sept. 22.

Eastern Panhandle Medical Society Meeting- Wed. Sept. 9 th, Panorama at the Peak Steak House, Berkeley Springs, WV. Registration at 6:00pm. Levture: “Prophylaxis of Venous Thromboembolism” Dinner at 7:30pm. Students invited to attend. Please RSVP to Carol Joseph.

Cushing Students- Please be aware that you will need ten graded H & P’s in your folder by Sept. 14 th. This is the mid point of the semester.

Student H & P’s can be picked up in the City Physician File room in a box marked for H & P’s.
