NOTICES:

PREPARE FOR SPRING REGISTRATION:
ALL STUDENTS are required to submit their individual Spring course registration through STAR. All students remain registered through all semesters of their medical school career to ensure professional liability coverage. Instructions will be submitted in the near future. In the meantime – take care of any restrictions. Check your account holds through STAR.

HSC DIVERSITY FAIR:
The HSC will hold a Diversity Fair in the Learning Center Commons from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22.Staffmembers and students will be on hand with information about the international outreach projects at each school. Music and refreshments will be provided. The event is part of the WVU Diversity Week, Oct. 17-22. Across campus, more than 40 musical performances, workshops, lectures, wellness activities and more will help to inspire a celebration of diversity on campus year round. AMSA:
November 10th: AMSA "What the Heck Does that Mean?" Lunch lecture with Dr. John Guilfoose 12 noon in Room 1901.

Students for Global Health will be having a meeting on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 12:00 pm in room 1905. We will have medical students speak about their experiences abroad. Countries should include Zambia, India, and Honduras. Unfortunately we will not be able to provide lunch for this meeting, but please bring a lunch andenjoy the discussion. Thank you!

SPORTS MEDICINE INTEREST GROUP:
The Sports Medicine Interest Group will hold its first meeting on Wednesday October 21st in room 2118 from 12:30-1 pm.Our mentor,Dr. Barry McDonough who isafaculty member of the Department of Orthopedics with fellowship training in Sports Medicine, will be there to discuss Sports Medicine and ourideas for the new group. PREPARE FOR DESIGNING YOUR THIRD YEAR SCHEDULE – VISIT THE HSC RURAL HEALTH FAIR: Tuesday, November 17th 12:30-4:30 pm, HSC Commons. This is your opportunity to meet with representatives from the state’s Rural Health Consortium face-to-face. Be informed by checking out the different consortiums and their opportunities through the state RHEP website http://www.wvrhepahec.org/. The class will be submitting requests for your third year schedule, including your Family Medicine Rural Rotation, in February. Campus specific meetings will take place in January. What's Happening This Week - Charleston:

SEASONAL VACCINE REQUIREMENT FOR ALL CHARLESTON STUDENTS BY 11/1:
CAMC is making it mandatory that any person active in the clinical setting (that means YOU) are required to get a seasonal flu vaccine. Not H1N1 at this time. You need to get the vaccine before 11/1/09. WVU will provide the vaccine to you FREE OF CHARGE. Come to Student Health (Family Medicine Center on 5th floor of RCB Clinical Teaching Center at Memorial). No appointment necessary. Family Medicine is open M-Th from 8:30-4:30, and Friday from 8:30-4:00, and closed for lunch from 12-1. Family Medicine prefers for students to come in the afternoon if possible (1:00 - 4:00) for fastest turnaround. Students must have their ID badge! Main number for Family Medicine is 304-388-4600.

Training Notice- For 4th year rotations at City Hospital. The IT department is requiring all students to complete training in the new dictation program for medical records. This will be scheduled for you when you return for your next rotation.

Mandatory Training session for Students- City Hospital has requested that all students working in the hospital be trained to use the new dictation software. Please see your assigned training session below.
Please contact Jane if you will need a memo to excuse you from your rotation for the morning.

Oct. 22- 8:00-9:00am- Please report to the Physicians IT training room in the Hospital Report to Laura in the IT department on the First floor- Laura, Rehan, Alyson, Matie, Nikki. Please let me know if you will need a memo to excuse you from your clinical rotation that morning.

End of Semester Mini-Weeks will begin on Monday, Oct. 26th. Your Daily assignment schedule will be given out on Oct. 23rd.
