PREPARE FOR SPRING REGISTRATION: ALL STUDENTS are required to submit their individual Spring course registration through STAR. All students remain registered through all semesters of their medical school career to ensure professional liability coverage. Instructions will be submitted in the near future. In the meantime – take care of any restrictions. Check your account holds through STAR.

H1N1 VACCINE for Morgantown Campus MS3/MS4 students Wednesday, October 28, 5:00 pm, John E. Jones Conference Center. While this is not a WVU SOM requirement, it may be a requirement for your rotation/clerkship. See your class email for details.

SAFE CLINIC: The SAFE Clinic is a West Virginia University School of Medicine student-run clinic normally held every 2nd Monday of the month, which operates under the auspices of Milan Puskar Health Right (MPHR - a community-supported free clinic. Students will be sent an email, around a week before the clinic, to sign up at the link provided. Students are generally selected on a first come, first served basis. AAMC 2009 "Medical Student Education: Costs, Debt, and Loan Repayment Facts" card is now available. Also known as the "Debt Fact Card," this card contains student loan indebtedness figures for the Class of 2009, sample repayment data, and information on tuition/fees and housestaff stipends. http://www.aamc.org/programs/first/debtfactcard.pdf
BIOINFORMATICS: Graduating students consider applying for a Biomedical Informatics Research Training (BIRT) program. Biomedical informatics is the convergence of biomedicine with a variety of technological and quantitative disciplines, including computer and information sciences, biostatistics, and cognitive science. Applications for the 2010-2011 academic year, with a start date of July 2010, are now being accepted. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010. The BIRT program is funded by a grant from the NIH’s National Library of Medicine and is open to US citizens and permanent residents. See attachments.

MedWARS competition: If you are interested in competing in a medically oriented adventure race (bike, hike, run and orienteer) in Tennessee on November 7th, please see the attachment.

What's Happening this Week - Morgantown:
AMA-MSS
The AMA-MSS will be hosting a lunch meeting Thursday, 10/29 at noon in room 1905. The purpose of this meeting is to gauge interest in forming a committee that will research and write resolutions to be presented at regional/national meetings. If you are interested in creating change through legislation, whether it be in the realm of public health, medical education, specialization, administration, or virtually any other area that touches our field, we highly recommend attending this meeting.

AMSA: November 10th: AMSA "What the Heck Does that Mean?" Lunch lecture with Dr. John Guilfoose 12 noon in Room 1901.

This is your opportunity to meet with representatives from the state’s Rural Health Consortium face-to-face. Be informed by checking out the different consortiums and their opportunities through the state RHEP website http://www.wvrhepahec.org/. The class will be submitting requests for your third year schedule, including your Family Medicine Rural Rotation, in February. Campus specific meetings will take place in January.

What's Happening This Week - Charleston:
SEASONAL VACCINE REQUIREMENT FOR ALL CHARLESTON STUDENTS BY 11/1: CAMC is making it mandatory that any person active in the clinical setting (that means YOU) are required to get a seasonal flu vaccine. Not H1N1 at this time. You need to get the vaccine before 11/1/09. WVU will provide the vaccine to you FREE OF CHARGE. Come to Student Health (Family Medicine Center on 5th floor of RCB Clinical Teaching Center at Memorial). No appointment necessary. Family Medicine is open M-Th from 8:30-4:30, and Friday from 8:30-4:00, and closed for lunch from 12-1. Family Medicine prefers for students to come in the afternoon if possible (1:00 - 4:00) for fastest turnaround. Students must have their ID badge! Main number for Family Medicine is 304-388-4600.
