Hometown: Bridgeport, WV
Undergraduate Degree: BA, Chemistry, Wheeling Jesuit University
1. What made you decide to get your MD degree at WVU?
It was close to home, there are great facilities, and my brother-in-law went to medical school here and he loved it. I also heard a lot of positive things about the school as well.
2. What is appealing about the MD program?
When I was younger I always thought about being a doctor out in the field helping people. I thought a lot about it during my undergraduate education. I like the idea that I can help people and volunteering with doctors-without-borders.
3. What is your favorite part about the MD program?
So far I like anatomy best. It seems interesting. I also did not realize how big and small some of the organs of the human body really are.
4. How do you balance school, home, and social life?
I had great practice during undergrad with time management. It has been an adjustment since then, but I have a supportive family who comes up and visits me and brings me food and helps me with my laundry.
5. You are involved in the Recycling Club and have attended several meetings of the Wilderness Medical Society and American Medical Association, do you think those organizations have enhanced your experienced here at WVU?
Definitely. They have allowed me to see things I would not have normally been able to see. I learned how to tie surgical knots with the Wilderness Medical Society, which was a lot of fun. I enjoy seeing different things.
6. What are you goals after graduating?
Right now I would like to volunteer with doctors-without-borders. As for a specialty, I am not sure right now.
7. What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
I like to hang out with my friends and watch movies. I also enjoy playing video games like Rock Band. It is a great stress reliever.
8. Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to attend medical school?
Think hard about it before you decide to do it. It is difficult and you really do not know what it is like until you are in it. It is great if you really want to do it, everyone is studying so much.
