Class of 2010
Morgantown Campus

Hometown: Point Pleasant, WV
Undergraduate Degree: BA, Psychology, Wheeling Jesuit University

Ashley Rawson with a baseball glove and cap1. What made you decide to get your MD degree at WVU?

I grew up in Point Pleasant, WV. I wanted to stay in state and I knew others who had received their M.D. degree here and like it.

2. What is appealing about the MD program?

The clinical experiences in the first and second years are very appealing. Also, the school's record of passing rates on the board exams is exceptional.

3. What is your favorite part about the MD program?

The class size: it is not too big and everyone gets along.

4. How do you balance school, home, and social life?

It was hard at first, but I try harder now to take breaks from school work. I go to the gym or movies with classmates when we are finished with a round of exams.

5. Do you think being involved in AMA (American Medical Association) and the Sports Medicine Interest group has added to your experience at WVU ?

Yes. The groups bring in speakers and give us a glimpse into what being a doctor will be. They also give us an idea of what the different specialties are like.

6. You will be receiving your white coat in March. Are you excited about it?

It is a great milestone. It seemed so far off at first, but it is getting closer. My class has come so far with our books and I feel I am ready for the clinical part of it.

7. What are you goals after graduating?

I am interested in not just primary care, but specialties like orthopaedics. I would like to practice in a city when I am finished.

8. What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?

My favorite things are to hang out with my friends and play sports when I get a chance, like soccer and softball.

9. Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to go to medical school?

Make sure you are willing to put the time in; you have to be dedicated.
