Department of Surgery Diagnostic laparoscopy is a surgical procedure used to diagnose a cause for abdominal problems like hernias, infection, obstruction, and tumor when history, physical examination, and other diagnostic test fail to give an answer. Diagnostic laparoscopy uses a medical telescope through a small incision in the abdominal wall to allow your surgeon gain a view of the inside of the abdomen. Other instruments are usually placed through other small incisions to facilitate the exploration of the abdomen.
