Department of Surgery
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Division performs a full range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries for patients from around the state and region.
Through the Center for Cosmetic Surgery, with comfortable outpatient offices in the Cheat Lake area, division faculty members perform a wide variety of elective cosmetic surgeries, more than 600 annually. These include liposuction, abdominoplasy, facelifts, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and mammoplasty.
Reconstructive surgery is equally busy, with a wide range of surgeries performed to correct defects caused by injury, surgery, or congenital problems. Women undergoing mastectomy may have immediate breast reconstruction , most often using autogenous tissue in the form of the TRAM flap or the latissmus dorsi flap.
General surgery residents who rotate on the Plastic Surgery service are schooled in basic surgical techniques and appropriate handling of tissues, in addition to being educated about wound care, hand pathology, and numerous related topics.
