Division of Urology
The Division of Urology provides state-of-the-art urologic care to patients throughout West Virginia and its border states. Its primary focus includes urologic oncology, adult and pediatric voiding dysfunction, and pediatric urology. In addition, the division has launched programs in brachytherapy for prostate and kidney cancer, in laparoscopic urology, and in sacral neuromodulation. In addition, WVU urologists are currently performing minimally invasive surgical procedures for BPH. More than 2,000 procedures are performed annually.
Research includes:
A study of urodynamic findings in patients who have undergone holmium laser resection of the prostate for benign prostatic hyperplasia and bladder outlet obstruction
Creation of a database and study of tissue markers to predict the failure or success of intravesical treatments in bladder cancer
Studies of female sexual dysfunction in patients with interstitial cystitis
The Division of Urology offers an ACGME fully-accredited five-year residency program, as well as clerkships in urology and pediatric urology for third-year medical students. Fourth-year medical student electives in urology include clinical urology, urology research, and neurourology/voiding dysfunction.
