Roses are available in red, white, pink, lavender and yellow and come wrapped in cellophane with fern and baby's breath. The WVU School of Nursing has been awarded grant money from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support students who are admitted to the January 2012 cohort of the BS/BA to BSN accelerated (Fast Track) program. This grant will allow the School of Nursing to offer significant scholarships to students from backgrounds that underrepresented in the field of nursing. This includes underrepresented minority groups, males, first generation college students, students from rural areas and those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The West Virginia University School of Nursing recently received $950,400 in federal funding that will allow 25 graduate students to complete the Family Nurse Practitioner program. The grant is intended to prepare health care workers to meet the needs of an increasing number of patients who will have insurance once health care reform is implemented. WVU is the only nursing school in the state to receive this grant.

The West Virginia University School of Nursing has recently received $264,000--the final installment of a major grant that has enabled significant expansion of advanced nursing practice programs. The foundation has been laid for the new baccalaureate to Doctor of Nursing Practice program to welcome its first class in the fall of 2011. In addition, two new tracks of study for Nurse Practitioner students have been added.

The grant funds are from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). This completes the agency's three-year award of nearly $800,000 to the School of Nursing.
