Dissertation Research Publication by the First Graduate of the Doctoral Program
On October 30, 2003, Alvita Nathaniel defended her dissertation and became the first graduate of the West Virginia University School of Nursing’s Doctor of Science in Nursing program. The title of her dissertation is “A Grounded Theory of Moral Reckoning for Nursing”. Her research received praise from Dr. Barney G. Glaser, who pioneered grounded theory methodology and served as a member of the dissertation committee. Dr. June Larrabee chaired the committee and Dr. Joy Penticuff from the University of Texas at Austin, and Dr. Susan McCrone and Dr. Mary Jane Smith from West Virginia University served as members.
