  1. Students will be entered into the RN to BSN Challenge course at the beginning of the Spring Semester past admission.
  2. Students who have Senior Standing in nursing or consent may challenge these courses.
  3. All students must first review the RN to BSN Challenge information found at the WebCT Vista RN to BSN Challenge site prior to contacting Dr. Nunley.
  4. If you believe you have the experience to either challenge by exam or portfolio the Community Courses you proceed by completing the following Intent to Pursue.

Intent to Pursue:

If a student intends to pursue challenge for N441 (Community Nursing Challenge Exam) and/or N445 & N455 (Community Care Nursing Portfolio), e-mail the following information to Dr. Barbara L. Nunley at bnunley@hsc.wvu.edu before the summer in which you are challenging. This information is to be sent to Dr. Nunley by March 22.

  1. State your past work experience you believe qualifies you to challenge community nursing courses. To challenge N441 by exam, you do not need work experience as a community health nurse. However, you still must send an e-mail to Dr. Nunley stating your intent to pursue challenging N441 by exam. This statement should justify why you have the experience to challenge these courses.
  2. For challenging N445 and N455 by portfolio, you need to specifically state the type of community nursing experience you have, how long you worked as a community nurse, and what type of aggregate project you were involved with in the community, such as communtiy health fair, presenting health related topics to a civic group, etc.
  3. All students seeking to challenge N441, and/or N445 and N455 must attach an updated resume to the e-mail.
  4. Dr. Nunley will then respond to you in an e-mail indicating which courses you are given permission to pursue via the portfolio and/or challenge exam.

Note: You may not challenge by exam or portfolio unless you have received permission first from Dr. Nunley.

Application for Advanced Standing : Once you receive permission from Dr. Nunley, you then need to download the Application for Advanced Standing pdf document. This application can also be found at the RN to BSN Challenge Website in WebCT Vista.
