Graduate Student Meritorious Waiver Policy

The School of Nursing will be allocated a limited number of meritorious tuition waivers to retain high quality graduate students. Meritorious waivers are awarded to degree seeking graduate students (including non-WVU employees) in the following programs: PhD in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Priority is given to students in the doctoral programs based on the criteria described below.

PhD Program
Eligibility - Admitted to the program with regular admission status
Credits awarded - Six credits to WV residents and up to 3 credits to out of state students (to begin with students admitted to the 2010 summer cohort)
Criteria - GPA of 3.5

DNP Program
Eligibility - Admitted to the program with regular admission status and completion of a minimum of 7 credits to include N715 and N716 with a GPA of 3.5
Credits awarded - Six credits to WV residents and up to 3 credits to out of state students
Criteria - GPA of 3.5 and demonstration of progress in the program

MSN Program
Eligibility - Admitted to the program with regular admission status and completion of 14 credits of course work with a GPA of 3.5
Credits awarded - Four credits to WV residents and up to 2 credits to out of state students
Criteria - GPA of 3.5 and demonstration of progress in the program

Deadlines for receipt of graduate meritorious waiver applications follow:

  • For Fall Term Waivers: The second Friday in June
  • For Spring Term Waivers: The second Friday in November
  • For Summer Term Waivers: The second Friday in April

Meritorious tuition waivers cover tuition only. Special fees are paid by the student. To be considered for a meritorious tuition waiver, please click on the link below and complete the online form.
