AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION WALK FOR LIFE AND BREATH
Saturday, April 25, McQuain Park! Registration begins at 9a and the walk will be at 10! We were the top team last year and we want to do it again this year! There will be lots of food and fun and entertainment for the kids. Coach Bill Stewart and our new Mountaineer are planning to attend - great photo opportunities for you and your kids. Pets are totally welcome. Put on your red SON t-shirt , bring your friends, your kids, your pets and pledges to walk with us on Saturday, the 25th. THE MUSHROOM PROJECT NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Two of our nursing students, Bill Grieb and Macy Miller are involved with the MUSHROOM Project, a medical outreach for the homeless population of Morgantown. They have been collecting clothing for the homeless and want to get the SON involved. Collection boxes are located in Health Promotion and Restoration. The collection needs at this time are socks for men/women, boxers, women's underwear, hair conditioner and deodorant. Please contact Macy, mmille22@mix.wvu.edu for more details or to get involved. You can purchase 10 pair of socks at the local dollar stores for $5. These needs are so basic - can you help?

SUMMER INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE TO LEARN ABOUT OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
Are you a student interested to learn more about occupational health or about economic and social disparities or environmental issues? You can apply for the Occupational Health Internship Program - OHIP. Students work with labor unions or community-based organizations on a variety of issues. Students can apply to work in any of the following cities, regardless of where they now reside: Berkeley/Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, and New York City. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2009. JOIN ENERGY EXPRESS TEAMS THROUGHOUT WEST VIRGINIA
Work in your home county and earn a stipend of $1600 and an additional $1000 toward your tuition at WVU! Energy Express is an 8-week AmeriCorps summer service program that serves children living in rural and low-income communities. There are two positions available at each site and there may be multiple sites in each West Virginia county. The first position, a College-Student Mentor, creates an enriching environment focused on reading, writing, and art that makes learning fun for a small group of school-age children. The Mentor also eats breakfast and lunch with the children. The second position, a Volunteer Coordinator, connects the parents and community to the site by recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers to read with children and support other activities at the site. Candidates are required to serve on-site every day for at least 6 hours and to serve some evenings and weekends. Training is provided. Energy Express is an award winning AmeriCorps program.

The position entails working with children 5 to 6 hours a day, from June 15 to August 7. In addition to the stipend and educational award listed above, participants are awarded 300 volunteer hours through AmeriCorps. There is also an opportunity to earn college credit. WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY VIETNAM & CAMBODIA SUMMER COURSE
Students from West Virginia University and students from other universities who want to enroll in this travel course at WVU will spend three weeks at An Giang University in Southern Vietnam and a week touring in Cambodia as well. It is anticipated that the course will be one month in length.
You will spend three weeks in Vietnam focusing on issues of community health for social workers. Classes will be populated both with US, Vietnamese, and Cambodian students giving you the opportunity to exchange ideas and interact with your peers from another country. A good portion of your time will be spent outside of the classroom using the country as your classroom, visiting social service agencies and engaging with the culture of Vietnam. Trips are being planned to the southern provinces, Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City, Long Xuyen and Ha Tien in extreme southern Vietnam. Please e-mail nnewfiel@wvu.edu for more information. Undergraduates will be awarded six credits of electives in social work for this course. Graduates students can earn three credits. You do not have to be a social work major to apply for admission to this course. Since this is an extended learning course, tuition is $50.00 per credit hour for both in-state and out-of-state students.
The estimated cost of this course excluding meals and travel medicine costs is $5100.00. This price will pay for all of your airfare, in-country travel, including taxis and lodging, and WVU tuition. Meals will be out-of-pocket and should cost less than $6.00 a day. A month abroad for this price is remarkable. Student loans and a limited number of scholarships are available for this course.

MSN STUDENT OPPORTUNITY
FINANCIAL AID OPPORTUNITY: The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides $300 million to the National Health Service Corps to Support Health Professions Educational Loan Repayment and Scholarship. The Corps (NHSC) is recruiting over 4,000 new clinicians over the next two years to serve in our Nation's needy communities; they are paying for medical school tuition and a monthly stipend education in exchange for practicing at one of many NHSC sites across the country. KEEP BRINGING YOUR USED PC CARTRIDGES TO HEALTH RESTORATION
We continue to raise funds for the Humane Society – The small pc cartridges we are donating are worth around $1 and the large cartridges bring in $4 each – This continues to be a worthwhile project, saving the animals and the landfill as well. The Humane Society truly appreciates your efforts! This is a year round project! Unfortunately, the need never goes away!
