CONGRATULATIONS:
To WVU Charleston School of Nursing faculty member Dr. Rose Ann DiMaria-Ghalili, who was featured on April 12, 2005, in an article in the New York Times. The article also included a picture of Peggy Fisher, graduate of the FNP program, who works at Cabin Creek. UNDERGRADUATES GRADUATING IN MAY:
If you are enrolled in a non-nursing course, please see Brandy Fisher in Student Services for a senior grade report form. You will need to take this form to your non-nursing course instructor for completion. In order to graduate, these forms must be returned by May 8 to Dr. Shelton in Student Services to indicate course completion.
GRADUATION:
Faculty and graduates, please let SueAnn Holipski in Student Services know by April 25 if you are or are not coming to the Saturday, May 14, 2005 School of Nursing convocation and the Sunday May 15, 2005 University commencement ceremony at the Coliseum.
USHERS NEEDED FOR GRADUATION:
Earn Community Service hours by serving as an usher at the School of Nursing graduation on Saturday, May 14, at the Creative Arts Center. Ushers are needed from 2:45 pm to 4:30 pm. You will earn 2 hours of community service. Let SueAnn Holipski in Student Services know if you are interested (sholipski@hsc.wvu.edu).
CELEBRATION OF SCHOLARSHIP:
All are encouraged to attend the Jenab Lectureship, which is the School of Nursing Honors Event, to be held on April 21 st at 7 pm in the Health Sciences Center Main Auditorium. Students receiving scholarships and awards will be honored, and induction of new members into Sigma Theta Tau will be held. The featured speaker will be Dr. Angela McBride, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean Emeriti of Indiana University and past president of Sigma Theta Tau International.
LIBRARY UPDATE:
Nursing Books 1990-1999 RT have been moved to the sixth stack level (or stack level 6). A handout of the renovation facts is available at http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/library/construction.htm. Select the Fact Sheet hyperlink. Select the Tour hyperlink for a tour of the health sciences library during the renovation. Group study rooms will not be available in the Library during the renovation. If you would like to schedule one of the conference rooms in the School of Nursing to use as a group study room, see Brandy Fisher in Student Services.
UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:
Sophomores and Juniors: If you are a West Virginia resident, you can apply for the West Virginia Community Educational Outreach Service $500 scholarship. For an application, see Brandy in Student Services. Deadline for submitting the application is May 6, 2005.
All undergraduates, including BS/BA to BSN and RN to BSN: A $500 scholarship is available to residents of Somerset County, PA, through the Somerset Hospital Auxiliary Board. Scholarship is renewable for a second year. See Brandy in Student Services for an application. Deadline for submitting the application is May 27, 2005.
Sophomores and Juniors: WVNA Hadassah Scholarship program will award scholarships to a limited number of nursing students. Applicants must be residents of West Virginia and intend to work in West Virginia after graduation. Special consideration is given to those who intend to work in the Greater Kanawha Valley upon graduation. Applications are available from Brandy in Student Services. Applications must be postmarked on or before May 8, 2005.
BLOOD DRIVE:
There will be a blood drive on Thursday, April 21, 2005 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the John Jones Conference Center. To make an appointment log on to www.redcrosslife.org or call 598-0732. Thank you for giving the gift of life.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
If you are interested in helping residents for Heritage Point, there are several ways to help. They are looking for students to help with their special events and to help during the stained glass class. The classes are on Tuesdays at varying times (3-5 or 6-8p). To sign up call Jane Graber at 285-5575.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Camp Nurse opportunity near Morgantown. Over night camp near Cheat Lake is hiring full and part time RNs, GNs, and BSN student health aides for their health clinic. Salaries are competitive. The shifts are flexible and the director will work with summer class schedules. The health clinic staff is not required to stay overnight. Great working and learning environment! A physician is on the property at all times. The camp starts June 19th and runs until the middle of August. For more information contact Joan Addicks, RN at 304-599-4521.
