SOME VERY SAD NEWS
Kristin Orncutt, Class of 2007, High Point Way, Wrentham MA, died unexpectedly
on July 12, 2008. Kristen was currently employed as a registered nurse at Brigham and
Women's Hospital in Boston, where she had worked for the past year. Although only at
the Brigham for a brief time, she was highly motivated, very caring, and her skill
was advancing her career quicker than anticipated. One patient had written about her,
referring to her as "an Angel with wings".
Alisha Fink (Clark), Class of 2002 and her husband Steve, are mourning the
unexpected death of their 3 year old son, Stephen Ashton Fink, August 2. Cards can
be sent to:
Alisha and Steve Fink, 5228 Old Saint Mary's Pike, Parkersburg, WV 26104
Patsy Hesen Haslam, 66, of Flat Top Lake died Friday, July 25, 2008. She was
a graduate of the first nursing class from West Virginia University School of Nursing
where she was a member of Chimes, Spokes, and Mortar Board, three of the female honoraries
at West Virginia University, Sigma Theta Tau, the national nursing honorary. She continued
her education by receiving a Master's of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh and
later an Ed.D. of Higher Education at West Virginia University. Following her graduation
from West Virginia University in 1963, she worked as a public health nurse for the
Monongalia County Health Department. Later she was a nurse at Beckley Appalachian Regional
Hospital, and taught nursing and served as coordinator of the Beckley Campus for Bluefield
State College. She spent her final 18 years working and helping to create and expand the
nursing and health sciences programs at Mountain State University where she recently retired
as the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences. She will be remembered as one of the women in
Beckley that established the right of fathers being allowed into the delivery room to support
their wives through childbirth, and also as teacher of the Lamaze Childbirth Method, which
she often taught out of her home.
A GREAT IDEA FROM SNA IF YOU PLAN TO DO SOME TRAVELING THIS SUMMER!
Please collect the toiletry items (shampoos, soap, even the instant coffee) you don't
use from the hotels you stay in. You can bring these items back to school and place
them in the collection box in Academic Affairs (in front of Brandy's desk) either
during the summer or when you get back to school. SNA will donate these items to the
Bartlett House. Thanks so much. Michelle L. Ryan is the SNA President, 2008-2009.
SNA COLLECTING TOPS FROM MEDICATION VIALS FOR FUNDRAISER!
If you are working in a clinical setting this summer, please collect the plastic tops
off vials of medication. When you open a new vial of medication, save that round
plastic top. You can save them until school starts OR you can drop them off in
Academic Affairs (in front of Brandy's office). SNA is using these for a future
fundraiser. Thanks for everyone's help and support.

KEEP BRINGING YOUR USED PC CARTRIDGES TO HEALTH RESTORATION
We continue to raise funds for the Humane Society – The small pc cartridges we are
donating are worth around $1 and the large cartridges bring in $4 each – This continues
to be a worthwhile project, saving the animals and the landfill as well. The Humane
Society truly appreciates your efforts! This is a year round project! Unfortunately,
the need never goes away!
