CPR CERTIFICATION AND PPD:
All students must have documentation of current CPR certification and PPD results on file in the Office of Student Services prior to beginning clinical experiences. PPD results are required annually. As you get recertification in CPR, and your annual PPD, please bring the documentation to the Office of Student Services.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS:
Some of the clinical agencies are now requiring that
students have a criminal background check before beginning clinical rotations in
the agency. The School of Nursing must require, therefore, that sophomores and
juniors have a criminal background check before beginning Fall clinical
rotations. All sophomores and juniors have been mailed information about the
procedure for the checks. If you did not receive the information in the mail,
please contact Student Services at 304-293-1386. The procedure involves
fingerprinting at a West Virginia State Police station or at campus police.
Students must have completed the fingerprinting and submitted the appropriate
forms to the Office of Student Services before the end of the first week of
classes (August 27, 2004). You will not be permitted to start clinical
rotations until the fingerprinting card has been submitted. If you have any
questions, contact Dr. Shelton at
eshelton@hsc.wvu.edu.
PYLONS ENTRANCE TO CLOSE:
The Pylons Entrance to the Health Sciences Center North will close on or around the first week in August, and will be closed for the next 14-18 months as the new Library-Learning Center is built. The Family Medicine/Dentistry entrance will be reconfigured to allow pedestrians to avoid the construction zone. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use the entrances at the rear of the building whenever possible. Drivers dropping off or picking up passengers, other than patients, are encouraged to avoid the front of the HSC. A drop-off area is available at the rear of the building. The parking shuttle van between the HSC and Area 81 will no longer make stops in the front of the HSC, but will make stops at the rear of the building. More information on the new shuttle route will be available soon.
PRT SECTION TO
BE CLOSED AUG. 9-10:
A section of the PRT will be closed Aug. 9-10 so workers can complete ongoing renovations. The PRT will not be running from the engineering station to the Beechurst Avenue and Walnut Street terminals on those days. The people-mover’s Evansdale runs - which include engineering, Towers and health sciences stations - will be unaffected. WVU will provide nonstop bus service between the engineering station and the Mountainlair to accommodate those inconvenienced by the temporary closure.
NEW STUDENT ID
NUMBER:
Remember to use your new University Student ID number. You can access this number through your MIX account. This number replaces the use of your social security number as per University and Federal regulations.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission has announced the availability of $10,000 scholarships for nurse practitioner students. To be eligible, students must be in the final year of a primary care educational program for nurse practitioners. Program participants are required to practice primary care for a minimum of two years in an underserved area of West Virginia upon completion of training. The application deadline is October 15, 2004, and application packets are available in the Office of Student Services.
SINBAD TICKET ON SALE:
Comedian Sinbad will showcase his larger-than-life comedy during Fall Family Weekend at WVU, on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 8:30 pm in the WVU Creative Arts Center. Currently enrolled, athletic-fee paying students will be able to print their own tickets, purchase and print guest tickets and track and manage their attendance history. The system goes live at midnight on August 29.
SNA PICNIC:
Fall will be here before you know it! Plan to attend the SNA Picnic on Tuesday, August 31, from 5 pm - ??? at Krepp’s Park. This is a great opportunity to renew old acquaintances, make new ones, and talk to faculty in a fun setting away from classroom and clinical.
