Message of the Week
August 02, 2006
WELCOME TO AUGUST! Many of you do not receive the graphics embedded in the Message. To read an enhanced version of the Message of the Week, please go to the School of Nursing website http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/son and click on the Message of the Week.
WE’VE MOVED!
To promote better continuity of services, the Office of Student Services has moved to the Academic Affairs wing on the 6th floor in Suite 6400. Facing the Dean's Office, continue around the hall to the left and you will find us at the end of the hall. The Research Office, which was previously housed in the Academic Affairs wing, has moved to the former Student Services Office next to the elevators. All telephone numbers will remain the same. Come by and see us in our new home!
THE STETHOSCOPE PACKS ARE IN!
You will be able to pick up your packs from SNA President Kari Summers in the Health Restoration Conference Room on the following dates and times:
August 16 9a – 11a or August 17 1p – 3p.
If you are unable to make either date, you can pick your pack up from Betty Jurick in Health Restoration on August 21 from 7a – 11a or Noon – 3p.
YOUR OLD PRINTER CARTRIDGES ARE WORTH $4 TO NEEDY DOGS & CATS!

Please bring your empty printer cartridges to the School of Nursing and drop them in the box in the back of Health Restoration. We donate them to the Mon County Humane Society – the money they receive from recycling these cartridges is presently being used to help fund the feral cat program/problem in the County. Feeding, spaying & neutering, and trying to make their lives a little better. We are making a difference for these unfortunate animals – to date we have donated nearly $500 worth of cartridges. Will you contribute please?
HEALTHY CAMPUS INITIATIVE
NO SMOKING INSIDE THE GREEN LINE
The HSC has established 50-foot smoke free zone around the building. This policy assures that students, employees and visitors can enjoy access to all our facilities and enjoy the outdoor spaces on campus without exposure to second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is firmly linked to increased risk for developing a number of diseases such as lung cancer and heart disease. |
GETTING AROUND TOWN WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME ON GASOLINE!
Beginning Saturday, July 22, WVU and the Mountain Line Transit Authority join forces on a project to expand local bus routes in Morgantown aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and expanding transportation options for students and employees, as well as community residents and visitors. The plan adds a continuous Mountain Line bus route - the Blue & Gold Connector, from Grant Avenue along Beechurst Avenue, to the Creative Arts Center, along Evansdale Drive by Engineering and Towers, to University Avenue by the College of Law, and back down Eighth Street to Grant/Summit and Life Sciences. This new express bus line will operate year-round, seven days a week, every 20 minutes. Hours will be 6:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sundays, with slightly varied summer hours. The service is free to students and employees with valid ID and the normal fare (75 cents) for other riders. New bus shelters, where appropriate, will be placed along the new route.
WVU officials say the new bus route is in addition to the current arrangement they have with Mountain Line that allows students and employees with valid WVU ID to ride any regular bus routes for free, whether it’s the Orange, Red, Gold, Campus PM, or any of the other 11 countywide bus lines. In addition to the new route and services, students and employees are reminded that WVU will continue its current PRT and University bus service schedules. For information on the new and current routes, go to www.busride.org, e-mail info@busride.org or call 291-RIDE.
