HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL !
Tis the season to be jolly—celebrate in a way that is special for you, have a wonderful vacation, and return to us safely in January.

CONGRATULATIONS:
To BSN December graduate Heather Donohoe who is engaged to Jonathan Kay of Ripley, WV. A May wedding is planned. Heather’s mother, Sheila Casto, graduated from WVU with the BSN in May 2003 and is currently in the MSN program. Heather wore her mother’s graduation cap and gown for the December School of Nursing graduation convocation ceremony.

TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE IN HEALTH RESTORATION:
A collection barrel has been placed in Health Restoration for your contribution to Christmas for children. Items for 12-16 age group are most needed: sweatshirts (L & XL); sweaters, jewelry sets, men and women perfume sets; make-up kits, watches; hair sets, hand held games; fishing poles, sporting goods, purses, board games. Or you can contribute money to Betty Jurick and she will see shopping is done. Do not wrap gifts but you can provide gift wrapping if you wish. Deadline for toys is Dec. 12.

GIVE BLOOD AND SAVE A LIFE 12/18/03:
A blood drive will be held Dec. 18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in the John Jones Conference Center. Call 598-4095 for an appointment. Blood donations earn community service hours.

CONDOLENCES:
To the family of faculty member Assistant Professor Dr. Marsha F. Poling Mitchell. Faculty, students, and staff have been saddened to learn Dr. Mitchell died following surgery on Friday, Dec. 5.

PROGRESSION PLAN REQUIRED:
Undergraduate students who do not attain a grade of C or better in Nursing courses must submit a formal progression plan for consideration by the Admission, Progression, Graduation Committee before January 3, 2004. Consult with your academic advisor for assistance in preparing your plan and to obtain advisor’s statement to the committee regarding your plan.

RISING SENIORS SUMMER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY FOR PAY:
Kansas State University gives undergrads from first generation college goers or minority students a first-hand experience in research. For information see

RA & GA APPLICATIONS:
Housing and Residence Life is currently accepting applications for RAs and GAs to work in the residence halls. Applications are available at any of the residence halls. Applications are due January 21st and interviews will be held the weekend of February 21st.

WVU FORGIVING PARKING TICKETS FOR FOOD DONATIONS:
The parking office will excuse one $10 ticket or two $5 tickets in exchange for three canned goods 10 ounces or more or three bags of dry goods. Only one ticket per license plate will be excused. Food taken to the parking office will be distributed to area food pantries.

MIX DOWN FOR REPAIRS 12/27-1/3/04:
Mix will be off-line to retool. Grades will be accessible on-line beginning Dec. 19.

SAFE CLINICAL PRACTICE POLICY CHANGES:
Changes in this policy have been made. Check them out at the School of Nursing web site www.hsc.wvu.edu/son click academic programs, click BSN, click Handbook.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Faculty Gail Van Voorhis and students will be building a Gazebo from a kit for the residents of Unity Manor Apartments on January 19th, Martin Luther King Day. Start time is 8:30 am. Place is 400 North Willey Street. Boy Scouts are providing lunch so a head count of volunteers has to be given in advance. Sign up now on SNA bulletin board at Student Services or at Gail’s office. DOCTORAL STUDENTS’ RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP:
Doctoral students are invited to submit a research proposal for funding by Alpha Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International; one $1,000 grant will be awarded through a blind peer review process. Eligibility criteria include: doctoral student; passed preliminary exams; have 3.5 GPA on 18 credit hours of work; have a letter of endorsement from faculty research mentor; current member of Alpha Rho Chapter (can process membership renewal online at
