GRADUATION
CEREMONY SUNDAY 12/12:
Graduating students and faculty, if you have not yet RSVP’d for the graduation ceremony and brunch, please do so as soon as possible. Students and faculty will assemble in the Pylon lobby of Health Sciences North at 9:30 am. Faculty will lead the procession into the auditorium at 10:00 am. Buffet brunch will be served in the HSC cafeteria immediately following the convocation.
CAPS AND GOWNS:
The caps and
gowns for December graduation are available in the Health Sciences Center
bookstore.
TOY DRIVE:
Please consider supporting the Christian Help Toy Drive for Children. A Toy Drive barrel will be in the Department of Health Restoration now through December 10 for donations. Toys are needed for children of all ages, including sports equipment, hand held games, books, nice sweatshirts and sweaters, board games, Legos, doll babies, etc. Teenage gifts are always needed (that seems to be an underserved group) and the kids like fishing poles, games, nice tops, coats, make-up kits, perfume and cologne kits for boys and girls, watches, fun movies and cds, hair accessories, footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and jewelry sets. Gifts are not to be wrapped, but if anyone wants to throw in rolls or sheets of gift wrapping and bows and small decorations, those are always welcome. Monetary donations are also welcomed, and checks can be made payable to Christian Help (indicate Toys Drive in the memo section). For more information, contact Betty Jurick in Health Restoration.
POLICY FOR STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN ONLINE COURSES:
The following policy is an addition to the Undergraduate Student Handbook and the Graduate Student Handbook, and is in effect immediately for all students participating in online courses:
Students in online courses have the professional responsibility to devote their full attention to the class while it is in session, just as they would in a traditional classroom setting. Students may not engage in patient care in the workplace while attending an online class session. If a student is permitted by an employer to participate in an online course during working hours, he or she must do so away from the clinical setting and only after being completely relieved of patient responsibilities. Students will not be permitted to make up course work or testing that is missed if called back to the workplace unless arrangements have been made with the course faculty member ahead of time.
PROGRESSION PLAN REQUIRED:
Undergraduate students who do not attain a grade of C or better in Nursing courses or required pre- and co-requisite non-nursing courses must submit a formal progression plan for consideration by the Admission, Progression, and Graduation Committee before January 5, 2005. Consult with your academic advisor for assistance in preparing your plan and to obtain the advisor’s statement to the committee regarding your plan. Progression plans and advisor support statements may be submitted in writing or by email to Dr. Shelton in Student Services, eshelton@hsc.wvu.edu.
HSC LIBRARY CLOSED 12/4:
Due to a planned power outage this coming weekend in conjunction with the Health Sciences Center construction projects, the Health Sciences Library will be closed on Saturday, December 4. The Evansdale Library is open 11 am - 7 pm on that day. Barring any unforeseen
complications, the library will be open its regular hours on Sunday, December 5.
SON T-SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS:
Holiday gift
ideas: The HSC Bookstore has SON t-shirts and sweatshirts. The sweatshirts are
on sale!
STUDENT APPRECIATION DAY:
Student Appreciation Day will be Monday, January 10, 2005. All students of the School of Nursing are invited to stop by the table outside Student Services to receive a gift of appreciation. We are glad you are here.

PARKING GARAGE SPACES
AVAILABLE AT HOULY RATE:
Two
sections of the parking garage, located behind the WVU Eye Institute, are
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on a first come, first served
basis, to employees of WVUH, UHA and WVU Health Sciences, as well as to
students, patients and visitors. Rates are $4 for 0-9 hours; $8 for 9-17 hours;
and $10 for 17-24 hours. It's important to note that each time an individual
moves his/her car from the garage (i.e., for lunch or a meeting), he/she will be
required to re-pay when re-entering the garage. A security officer will man a
parking booth at the entrance of the garage to collect payment (cash only) and
to monitor the garage for safety. There will continue to be a section of the
parking garage on Level 2 reserved for those accessing the Emergency Department.
These individuals are not required to pay to park in the garage. There's also
spaces reserved on Level 1 for individuals who are leasing a space in the garage
on a monthly basis. Questions? Call the Parking Office at 598-4029.
