CONGRATULATIONS:

2004 Health Planning and Legislative Position Committee. The West Virginia
Nurses Association awarded this committee "Committee of the Year" designation
for their outstanding work!
INTERN APPLICANTS WANTED FOR MCNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM:
The McNair Scholars Program, which gives first-generation and minority students
a head start on graduate school, is still looking for outstanding undergraduates
to participate in its 2004 summer research internship. The program will continue
to accept applications until all spots are filled. For information about the

BLOOD EARNS 3 SERVICE HOURS 2/19/04:
Give blood in John Jones Conference Center Feb. 19 and earn 3 community service
hours for this blood drive only. The schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing,
and Pharmacy are sponsoring this blood drive. Hours open are 11:00 am to 5:00
pm; call 598-4095 to schedule appointment.
STATISTICS THIS SUMMER:
Juniors and Seniors, Fairmont State College is offering the statistics class for
10 weeks at the Vo-Tech center in Morgantown. Class runs from May 17 through
July 23 and meets on Monday and Wednesday from 1800-2015. If interested contact

SIGMA THETA TAU RESEARCH LUNCH OPEN TO ALL 3/1/04:
Beth Baldwin will present "An Evaluation of
Staff Breastfeeding Education Effects on Maternal Infant Feeding Choices,
Breastfeeding Attitudes, Beliefs and Duration" from noon to 1:00 pm in Ruby
Conference Room 6 by the cafeteria.
PIZZA LUNCH AT WVU HOSPITALS 3/13 AND 3/24/04:
If you are in WVU Hospitals either of these
dates, have free pizza for lunch. March 13 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm
to 6:00 pm, Conference Rooms 7 and 8 on the 4th floor. March 24 same times in
Conference Room 6 on the 4th floor.
GOOD WOMEN’S CLOTHING STILL NEEDED:
Health Restoration is collecting good
women’s clothing, shoes, accessories, scrubs, and nurse shoes to the end of
February. See Betty Jurick if you have questions.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS:
Student Services has applications for the
Bernice L. Vance Scholarship and the Hadassah Scholarship. For the Vance, you
are eligible to apply if you are a West Virginia resident, intend to work in
West Virginia for at least one year after licensed, and are a member of WVSNA or
WVNA. For the Hadassah, you can apply if you are a West Virginia resident and
are willing to meet five other requirements. See Brandy in Student Services for
application materials. Completed applications due back to Dr. Gross no later
than march 5, 2004. For info contact Dr. Gross, 293-1386 or in person.
JUDY KANDZARI SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS IN RURAL HEALTH:
Three or four $250.00 grants are available.

UNITED WAY PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS:
Deadline for submission extended to end of
February--Students who have contributed at least 100 hours of service to the
community within a 12 month period in one of the following classifications are
eligible for consideration: Youth Achievement; Parks and Open Spaces; Healthy
Communities; Public Safety and Emergency Response. Contact Dr. Gross for

Heritage Place is looking for volunteers in both independent and assisted living areas. In return for working four or more hours when you say you will, you receive much satisfaction and a letter of recommendation. For more information Janet 285-5576.

Nathan Ezra Tolliver, son of Mandy Simmons Tolliver (BSN 2002) and husband
Matthew Tolliver, visited the School of Nursing last week. Born 2/6/04 at 9 lb 6
oz and 22 in long, Nathan charmed all who saw him. Following maternity leave,
Mother Mandy will resume her nursing position in Pediatric Nursing at Ruby
Hospital.
