CONGRATULATIONS:
To faculty member Dr. June Larrabee, Associate Professor, who was Symposium
Coordinator for "Reaching New Heights In Practice: The Research Utilization
Journey," presented at International Nursing Research, the 18th Annual
Conference sponsored by the Southern Nursing Research Society, Louisville, KY,
February 19, 2004. Coauthors were Mary Lynne Withrow, RN, MSN; Mary Fanning, RN,
MSN; and Andrea Ferretti, RN, BSN. The symposium described the design,
implementation, and evaluation of WVU Hospitals Nursing Division research
utilization program for evidence-based practice change.
At this same conference, Dr. Larrabee also presented a research paper: "Influence of RN Stress Resiliency on Psychological Empowerment, Job Stress, and Job Satisfaction" (paper by Larrabee, J.H., Simoni, P.S., Birkhimer, T., Mott, C., and Gladden, S.) The last three coauthors are WVUSON MSN students who worked on the Stress Resiliency study with Dr. Larrabee for their guided research experience.
CLASSROOM DECORUM:
Thoughtful students and faculty agree that, together, all of us are responsible
for a classroom milieu that encourages learning. Please be aware that students
will be warned when behavior does not meet this standard; students who have been
warned can be dismissed from the classroom if their disruptive behavior
continues.
STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION ELECTION 3/1/04:
SNA is now taking nominations for officers for 2004-2005. There is a paper at
the SNA workspace to nominate whoever is interested in running for an office.
Elections will be held Monday, Mar. 1, at the regular meeting in 2118. Don’t
miss this.
NATIONAL STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION APPLICATIONS DUE
BEFORE 2/27/04:
President Karri Kolozy reminds all that NSNA applications have to be turned in
to her or to her mailbox in the SNA workspace before Friday, Feb. 27.
IMPORTANT INFO FOR THOSE GRADUATING IN MAY:
The School of Nursing graduation convocation will be Saturday, May 15, Creative
Arts Center. Reception starts at 3:00 pm, ceremony will begin at 4:00 pm on the
dot! All participants wear academic regalia that you must order from the
bookstore. The School of Nursing will provide you with invitations to send to
your guests. School of Nursing pins may be purchased by obtaining an order form
from Student Services or you may order March 1 from 1100 to 1400 at the table in
front of the bookstore. More information, including details about the University
ceremony on Sunday, May 16, will be mailed to you soon.
Monday, March 1, 2004 is the last day to complete the Application for Graduation and Diploma.
GRADUATING IN AUGUST—READ THIS:
August graduates can take part in the School convocation May 15 or in the
December School convocation ceremony but not at both. In May you will be
recognized following recognition of the May grads. School pins will be awarded
by the Dean to those who purchase them. August grads may attend the University
December 2004 ceremony or the May 2005 ceremony.
UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER NURSING COURSES:
All undergraduate students who want to take
nursing courses this summer must submit an e-mail request to

Scheduling will soon begin for the fall 2004 semester. If you have a special

SIGMA THETA TAU RESEARCH LUNCH OPEN TO ALL 3/1/04:
Beth Baldwin will present "An Evaluation of Staff Breastfeeding Education
Effects on Maternal Infant Feeding Choices, Breastfeeding Attitudes, Beliefs and
Duration" from noon to 1:00 pm in Ruby Conference Room 6 by the cafeteria.
DUI: A POWERFUL LESSON 3/3/04:
Learn how a spring break trip turned into a nightmare for Mark Sterner and three
of his fraternity brothers. Mountainlair Ballroom 7:00 pm March 3rd.
PIZZA LUNCH AT WVU HOSPITALS 3/13 AND 3/24/04:
If you are in WVU Hospitals either of these dates, have free pizza for lunch.
March 13 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Conference Rooms 7 and
8 on the 4th floor. March 24 same times in Conference Room 6 on the 4th floor.
HARRISON COUNTY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP:
Rose Marie Grimes Nursing Scholarship is
available from Clarksburg League for Service. Applicants sored on need;
academics; goals; activities; honors; references. Applications available from
Student Services must be postmarked by March 28, 2004.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS:
Student Services has applications for the Bernice L. Vance Scholarship and the
Hadassah Scholarship. For the Vance, you are eligible to apply if you are a West
Virginia resident, intend to work in West Virginia for at least one year after
licensed, and are a member of WVSNA or WVNA. For the Hadassah, you can apply if
you are a West Virginia resident and are willing to meet five other
requirements. See Brandy in Student Services for application materials.
Completed applications due back to Dr. Gross no later than March 5, 2004. For

JUDY KANDZARI SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS IN RURAL HEALTH:
Three or four $250.00 grants are available.
Applications are due April 1, 2004. For application and information contact Gail

LOAN?
The Norman W. Smith Educational Loan Trust,
managed by Huntington National Bank, provides loans to undergraduate and
graduate students. Completed applications must be received for the fall semester
2004 by April 15. For information brochure see Brandy in Student Services. For

UNITED WAY PRESIDENT’S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS:
Deadline for submission extended to end of February--Students who have
contributed at least 100 hours of service to the community within a 12 month
period in one of the following classifications are eligible for consideration:
Youth Achievement; Parks and Open Spaces; Healthy Communities; Public Safety and
Emergency Response. Contact Dr. Gross for information 293-1386 or in person at

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

June 21 to August 7. You are eligible to apply if your overall nursing grade
