CONGRATULATIONS:

To Stephanie Beard, who earned a 4.0 grade point average on at least 12 gradable hours for the Fall 2004 semester and is on the President’s List.  Stephanie’s name was omitted from last week’s Message.

SUMMER COURSES FOR UNDERGRADUATE BSN STUDENTS:

There are still a few spaces left in Junior level summer rotations.  Current sophomores who would like to complete a full semester of nursing courses during the summer can apply by contacting Dr. Shelton at eshelton@hsc.wvu.edu by Friday, February 11.  The courses run over both summer sessions from May 23 to August 11, 2005.  Priority is given to students with the best academic records.  To qualify, students should have a GPA over 3.0 and should not have received less than a C in any nursing courses or science courses. 

 

GRADUATE STUDENTS PLANNING TO GRADUATE IN MAY:

Graduate students planning to graduate in May 2005 will need to submit an application for graduation no later than, Monday, February 7, 2005, to the Health Sciences Graduate Program Office.   Application for Graduation forms are available at under forms.  Please complete the entire form including diploma address.  Admissions & Records requires the address even if mailing is not requested. 

 

FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE:

Remember to submit your scholarship application to the Office of Student Services and file your FAFSA by February 4, 2005, to be considered for a School of Nursing scholarship for academic year 2005-2006.  Funds are limited and awarded on the basis of combined academic achievement and financial need.

 

 

GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP:

Scholarships are available for full-time MSN and full or part-time DSN students, awarded by Nurses’ Educational Funds, Inc.  Deadline for applications is March 1, 2005.  For additional information or an application, visit the website at www.n-e-f.org

 

FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS:

Now is the time to apply for financial aid for the 2005-2006 academic year. The HSC Financial Aid Office encourages students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st.  The FAFSA can be completed on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Paper FAFSAs are also available in the HSC Financial Aid Office located in room G111 HSCN or by calling 304-293-3706.

 

LOAN CONSOLIDATION LUNCH AND LEARN:

The HSC Financial Aid Office is hosting a Loan Consolidation Lunch and Learn on February 8, 2005, in the HSC Main Auditorium from 12-1.  Lunch will be provided.  No registration is required.  Students could potentially save thousands of dollars by consolidating loans now instead of waiting, since interest rates are expected to increase on July 1st.

 

SNA FORMAL:

The SNA formal is February 26 from 7-11 pm in the upstairs of De Lazy Lizzard.  Faculty, staff and students alike should plan to attend. It is a blast! Dress can be formal to just dressy.  Cost is $45 a couple and $25 for singles.  Dinner will be provided, along with dancing and drink specials!  Make checks payable to SNA and put in the treasurer's mailbox in the SNA workspace on the 6th floor.  Please have money in by February 18. 

 

WVU NURSING SWEATSHIRTS:

Orders are being taken for WVU Nursing Sweatshirts.  Cost is $35, and proceeds support SNA activities.  Order forms are in the Department of Health Restoration at the SNA workstation.  Checks should be made payable to WVU SNA.  Orders are due by February 11, 2005.

 

NCLEX REVIEW COURSES:

A free NCLEX Workshop will be offered by WVUH on Saturday, February 26, from 8:30 to 3 pm.  Meet in the Lobby at Ruby Memorial.  To register, contact WVU Hospitals Human Resources Department, (304) 598-4075 / 1-800-453-5708.

 

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is hosting three NCLEX review courses on Saturdays, Feb. 5, Feb. 12, and March 19 at various locations in the Pittsburgh area.  The review courses are free, and handouts and lunch will be provided in addition to free parking.  A flyer with more information is on the Student Services bulletin board.  For more information or reservations, call 1-800-533-UPMC.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:

Unite for Sight, a nonprofit agency dedicated to improving eye health and preventing blindness, has numerous volunteer opportunities for students and faculty in international locations during the Summer. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Camp Health Officer wanted for Boy Scouts of America camp in Morgantown.  Camp is held 6 days a week June 6-July 17, 2005, with possibility of 3 week extension.  Room and board provided + compensation.  Qualifications: current RN license and experience with youth.          Contact: Dr. Debra Harr at dharr@hsc.wvu.edu  304-293-1592.
