CONGRATULATIONS:
To Dr. Ann Cleveland and Dr. Susan McCrone, on the publication of their article, Development of the Breastfeeding Personal Efficacy Beliefs Inventory: A Measure of Women’s Confidence About Breastfeeding, in the Journal of Nursing Measurement, Volume 13, Number 2, Fall 2005.

TEST TAKING WORKSHOP:
A test-taking workshop will be held on February 15, from 5 pm to 6 pm, in Room 7605. Undergraduate students are encouraged to attend. The workshop will be given by Dr. Alfred and Dr. Shelton, and will focus on note taking and mastering content, coping with test anxiety, preparing for exams, and strategies for effective test taking.
TIPS:
Students who get a C or lower on nursing tests are strongly encouraged to attend the TIPS sessions.
The Thursday tutoring sessions for NSG 334 will be held from 2 pm – 3 pm for the remainder of the semester. The sessions will be in Room 8605, with the exception of February 9 (Room 3129) and March 9 (Room 8601). Monday sessions will continue to be from 12-12:50 in Room 8605.
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS GRADUATING IN MAY:
The application for graduation and diploma and the alumni database form must be completed by March 1. Come to Student Services to get your graduation packet which will include licensure and NCLEX information. You will need to bring a check for $30 payable to WVU with “graduation fee” written in the memo section of your check. Information about ordering the School of Nursing pin will also be in the packet. Students in the Rural Health rotation who want to have the packet mailed to them should contact Student Services at 293-1386 as soon as possible. August graduates are also eligible to participate in the May ceremony. You will receive graduation and licensure information at a later time. However, if you want to participate in the May ceremony, please stop by Student Services to complete the pin information form.
MSN MAY GRADUATES:
MSN students planning to graduate Spring 2006 will need to submit, to Health Sciences Graduate Office, an application for graduation no later than, Monday, February 13, 2006. “Application for Graduation” forms are available at www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/resoff/ under forms. Please complete the entire form including diploma address; Admissions & Records requires the address even if mailing is not requested. The electronic thesis and dissertation (ETD) submission deadline is May 5, 2006 at 4:00 pm.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:
An application for the Greta B. Stevens Scholarship has been e-mailed to all Charleston Students. If you have not received the application, please contact Dianne Griffith at 347-1398 or dgriffith@hsc.wvu.edu. Deadline for application is March 10th.
The Rose Marie Grimes Nursing Scholarship is open to students who graduated from a Harrison County high school or are residents of Harrison County. Applicants must be preparing to enroll in the second year of the BSN program and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applications are available in Student Services. Deadline to apply is March 6, 2006.
HSC TALENT SHOW:
The 9th Annual HSC Talent Show will take place on Saturday, Feb. 18th at 7:00 pm in the HSC Main Auditorium. The night includes an art show, silent auction, bake sale, and talent show, and should be an enjoyable time. All proceeds from the show will benefit the WVU Children’s Hospital. We are still looking for acts for the show. The deadline for talent forms is Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 in HSC mailbox 408. If you have any questions or need an application form, you can email Jeremy Toler at jtoler@mix.wvu.edu. Forms are also available in Student Services. Tickets for the show are also on sale this week in the student lounge and are $5. Tickets purchased at the door will be $6.
SNA FORMAL:
The SNA formal will be February 25, 2006, 7-11pm at the Hotel Morgan. Faculty and students are invited. Students must be an SNA member and will have the option of bringing one guest. Ticket prices for the formal will be $25 for a single ticket and $45 for a couple. There will be a sit down dinner and a cash bar with soft drinks, beer, and wine as well as a DJ for dancing and entertainment. Dinner choices consist of Chicken Parmesan, Chicken Florentine, and Vegetarian Pasta. You must know your dinner choice and guest's choice when purchasing tickets.
BLOOD DRIVE:
There will be a blood drive on Tuesday, February 14, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the John Jones Conference Center. To make an appointment, log on to www.redcrosslife.org. You may also call the Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE LIFE. Students will receive 3 hours community service hours for donating. This is the only drive of the year that the 3 hours will be given. This is also the community "Random Acts of Kindness" week. Donating blood is a great act of kindness. Thank you for giving the gift of life.
SNA JACKET SALE:
To all of those who showed interest in the jacket sale through SNA an email was sent with ordering information in it. If you showed interest in the jackets and you did not get the email, please let Nikki Leedy know ASAP!!!! If you have any questions or problems please email Nikki at nleedy@mix.wvu.edu.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Ridgedale Elementary School will be holding their annual science fair for 2nd & 3rd grade students on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 21st. Nursing students are needed to do a 20 minute presentation about the circulatory system for 4 groups throughout the afternoon. Any interested students can contact Susan Starliper at (304) 291-8074. (Ridgedale Elementary is located on 119S, about 2-2.5 miles past the Ramada Inn.)
The WVU Center of Excellence in Women’s Health will be doing blood pressure screenings for the March 3 women and cardiovascular health event. Students are needed to take blood pressures. If interested, contact Betty Parsons, the Center manager, at Eparsons@hsc.wvu.edu.

Faculty and upperclass students are needed to help with the pharmacy physical assessment labs. They are in the nursing lab from 9a-12n on the following dates. Patti Hermosilla and Gail VanVoorhis teach the classes but need lots of help in the lab checking the students off on their assessment techniques. Dates are February 13(Mon), 15(Wed), 27(Mon) & March 1(Wed)
WV Family Grief Center Dinner is on Monday Feb. 20th from 5-7pm. We will prepare, serve, and clean-up dinner for families who are there for counseling after the loss of a family member. It is held in the Methodist church on Burroughs about 1 from the pit parking area.
The SON will be participating in two health fairs for WVU Students by screening B/Ps. Anyone willing to coordinate one or both of these can contact Gail VanVoorhis about double hours. The first is on Monday March 6th at the WVU Rec Center from 4-7pm. The second is on Thursday March 30th at the Towers Dining hall from 3-8p.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Jen Sexton is looking for individuals to take over her work with at least two kids with disabilities starting around June. One young lady is fourteen with Down Syndrome and a young man is twelve with cerebral palsy. Evening and day shifts are available, usually after school. Pay is $6.25 and $7.25 per hour.
