CONGRATULATIONS:

To Jennifer Douglas, junior BSN student, who is the recipient of the 2005 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship, presented by the University at Unity Day Breakfast on January 17, 2005.

 

To Robert W. Ongrady, BSN 1997, who recently completely his nurse anesthetist program in Florida and passed his State Boards as a CRNA. 

 

LIVE VIRUS VACCINES:

If you have received an immunization with a live virus vaccine, such as FluMist (nasal flu vaccine), MMR, or varicella, you should be aware that the virus can be passed on to contacts for up to 2 weeks following administration of the vaccine.  Please let your clinical instructor know if you receive a live virus vaccine, so that appropriate arrangements can be made to limit contact with immunosuppressed patients.

 

SWEATSHIRTS ON SALE:

FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP INFO:

Information on the 2005-2006 scholarship process and an application form were mailed to all freshmen, sophomore, and junior BSN nursing students’ permanent address in December.  You must submit the completed application to the Office of Student Services and file your FAFSA by February 4, 2005, to be considered for a School of Nursing scholarship for academic year 2005-2006.  Funds are limited and awarded on the basis of combined academic achievement and financial need.

 

SNA MEETING:

First SNA meeting of the new year is on January 24th at 12 noon. We will meet in the Skills Lab Rm # 3016.  We will be talking about the Salt Lake City NSNA Convention and Mon. General Recruiter will be here with lunch

 

SPIRIT OF NURSING AWARD:

Undergraduate nursing students are invited to submit applications for the Spirit of Nursing Award, which is sponsored jointly by the Army Nurse Corps and the National Student Nurses Association.  Our school will select the best candidate from applications submitted to Student Services.  See Brandy in Student Services for a copy of the application.  Deadline for submitting completed applications to Student Services is January 28, 2005.

 

NCLEX REVIEW COURSE:

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is hosting three NCLEX review courses on Saturdays, Feb. 5, Feb. 12, and March 19 at various locations in the Pittsburgh area.  The review courses are free, and handouts and lunch will be provided in addition to free parking.  A flyer with more information is on the Student Services bulletin board.  For more information or reservations, call 1-800-533-UPMC.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Point O’ Pines Camp for Girls is looking for RNs for summer 2006.  Applicants must be registered nurses by June 26th.  The camp, for girls ages 6 to 15, is located in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, and runs from mid-June through mid-August.  For more information, visit the website at www.pointopines.com, or call 1-888-726-9908.
