CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS:
Some of the clinical agencies are now requiring that students have a criminal background check before beginning clinical rotations in the agency. The School of Nursing must require, therefore, that sophomores and juniors have a criminal background check before beginning Fall clinical rotations. All sophomores and juniors have been mailed information about the procedure for the checks. If you do not receive the information in the mail by July 28, please contact Student Services at 304-293-1386. The procedure involves fingerprinting at a West Virginia State Police station or at campus police. Students must have completed the fingerprinting and submitted the appropriate forms to the Office of Student Services before the end of the first week of classes (August 27, 2004). You will not be permitted to start clinical rotations until the fingerprinting card has been submitted. If you have any questions, contact Dr. Shelton at eshelton@hsc.wvu.edu.
STUDENT FRIENDLY ONLINE TICKETING SYSTEM:
Students tired of waiting in line for home football game tickets will have a new and easy way to register this Fall by logging on to www.wvugame.com. Currently enrolled, athletic-fee paying students will be able to print their own tickets, purchase and print guest tickets and track and manage their attendance history. The system goes live at midnight on August 29.
NEW WVU ID NUMBERS IN BANNER/STAR:
Beginning Monday, July 12, WVU students, faculty and advisers have been assigned a new WVU ID number in the BANNER/STAR Student Information System. This nine-digit number replaces the old ID (Social Security number), providing a more secure data environment and meeting new federal regulations. The new WVU ID will be printed on communication that previously displayed individuals’ Social Security numbers such as invoices, schedules and class lists. During the transition period (July 12, 2004 through August 1, 2005), current faculty and students (those added to the STAR system before July 11, 2004) will still be able to access the STAR Web using their old ID numbers. User name and password to enter MIX or STAR Web will remain the same. Students and faculty can find their new WVU ID number by logging into STAR; the new ID number will be displayed along with your name once you have selected an option within STAR. Students are encouraged to use their new WVU ID number when contacting administrative departments (Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, Housing, Student Accounts, etc.). Additional information can be found on the MIX Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Web page. Anyone experiencing difficulty logging into MIX or STAR Web should contact the Help Desk at 304-293-4444 ext. 1.
SNA PICNIC:
Fall will be here before you know it! Plan to attend the SNA Picnic on Tuesday, August 31, from 5 pm - ??? at Krepp’s Park. This is a great opportunity to renew old acquaintances, make new ones, and talk to faculty in a fun setting away from classroom and clinical.
BLOOD DRIVE:
Earn community service hours by participating in the blood drive: July 21, John Jones Conference Center, 7 am to 6 pm. Call 598-4095 for an appointment. Grateful Life Tour II tie-dyed T-shirts will be available. The Grateful Life Tour II is an American Red Cross blood drive taking place this summer in 300 cities, including Morgantown.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Nursing students are needed by the Mental Health Association to do screenings for head lice, July 19 – July 23, from 9 am to 3 pm. Please call Kathy Humich at 292-0525 for directions before going. The screenings will be done in the Friendship Room in the Garlow Building at 224 Garlow St., Morgantown.
