CONGRATULATIONS:

To faculty member Dr. June Larrabee, recently elected by West Virginia University faculy to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.  The Executive Committee of six faculty Senators, the faculty Senate Chair, past Chair and Chair elect, meets with University President Hardesty monthly for information exchange and to provide input from the faculty point of view to decision making.

To May BSN graduate Kimberly Anne Gardner who was married to Michael James Caruso on May 24^th in Townsend, Tennessee.

NEED CPR CLASS?

A CPR class will be Monday, 6/23, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; contact Jennifer by 10 am Friday, June 6.   Classes of 10 students will be taught in the Public Safety building at 300 Spruce Street (by the parking garage) by Lieutenant Terry Rhinehart.  The class will be located in the training room across from the Fire Administration Office.  The cost is $10 payable the day of the class in cash or by check made out to Lieutenant Terry Rhinehart.  Space in the classes will be filled in order of the replies to Jennifer Douglas.

SOPHOMORES- WILL YOU TRADE MICROBIOLOGY TIME?

Sophomore student scheduled for microbiology on Wed. and Fri. 15:00-16:25 needs to trade with student scheduled for microbiology on Mon., Wed, and Fri. 13:00-14:00.  If you will trade please e-mail Mrs. Lisa Vidovich now at lvidovich@hsc.wvu.edu or call her at 293-1384.

HELP HEALTH  RIGHT – BUY RAFFLE TICKETS BEFORE 7/25/03:

See Chris in the Dean’s office to buy one ticket for $1.00, 6 tickets for $5.00.  Help Health Right and maybe win a beautiful Amish quilt.

TRASH OR TREASURE DAY 6/14/03:

WVU Alumni Association having trash or treasure day Saturday, June 14 at the Coliseum parking lot .  Free admission to buyers.  Sellers pay $30 for two adjacent parking spaces and one table; sellers must register by June 9, call 293-4731 X 14.

READ MIX THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER:

Check your MIX throughout the summer for information from the School of Nursing.  Mix is accessible from any where in the world if you can get to the world wide web.  Remember, it’s best to forward your other e-mail accounts (if you have AOL etc.) to MIX and not the other way around.

FALL SCHEDULE CHECKUP FOR UNDERGRADUATES:

All undergrads are asked to check their fall schedule of courses now.  If you see any problems or have questions about your schedule, see Mrs. Lisa Vidovich in Student Services or contact her at 293-1384 or by e-mail lvidovich@hsc.wvu.edu.  Problems with schedules can probably be fixed now but not after June 30.

STUDENT PICNIC 8/21/03:

Mark you calendars now for the Student Nurses Association sponsored picnic for all undergrad students—Thursday, August 21, at 4:00 pm at Krepps Park.  Good eats, good fun for all, don’t miss it.

 
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
American Cancer Society Relay For Life is June 20^th-21^st at the WVU track.  Anyone who would like to register to help should contact Gail VanVoorhis at 293-0298.  You can volunteer for the whole event or just a small amount of time.  There is a $10 registration fee.  Help Gail register people, have FUN enjoying the picnic food, in the tie-dye booth, walking in circles, and participating with your friends.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
A new “Nursing Scholarship Program” is available from the federal government to address the nursing shortage.  All levels of students who attend accredited schools of nursing and who agree to serve for a period not less that 2 years at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses are eligible to apply.  The application period opens May 16, 2003 and closes June 30, 2003.  Interested students apply directly to HRSA.  For more information go to http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship or call 1-866-867-6856.  For application packet must call 1-866-867-6856.  For help with the application contact Dr. Gross at sgross@wvu.edu or 304-293-1541.

Matthew Streitz, BSN 2001, is investigating coming back to WVU for his MSN.  Currently Matt is  having an exciting time and loving his work in the Emergency Department of Scot Air Force Base in Illinois, a Level 2 center.
