CONGRATULATIONS:
To Dr. Suzanne Gross on her retirement from the position of Assistant Dean for Student Services.  Dr. Gross has been a wonderful asset to the School of Nursing during her many years of service in various capacities.  She will continue to teach in the School of Nursing next year in NSG 333, Ethics in Nursing.  Her office is now located in Health Promotion, and she continues to have the same phone number and email address (293-1765; sgross@hsc.wvu.edu).  Dr. Elisabeth Shelton is the new Assistant Dean for Student Services, and can be reached at 293-1386, eshelton@hsc.wvu.edu.

AUGUST BSN GRADUATION:
All Undergraduate Students Graduating In August:  All applications for graduation and diploma must be completed by June 30, 2004.  You will need to pay $30 by check or money order - payable to WVU.  No Cash!  When you have completed the application for graduation and diploma, Mrs. Vidovich will give you the NCLEX and licensure application with instructions.

If you need this mailed to you, call Brandy at 304-293-1386 immediately.  This must be returned to Student Services by June 30, 2004.

NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS:
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) has available Excellence in Academics Nursing Scholarships.  Two scholarships in the amount of $2500 will be distributed in the fall and spring semesters to nursing students in their junior year of an accredited BSN program.  To qualify, applicants must:  possess a GPA of 3.5 or better; complete an application form; and submit a 250-word essay describing their career aspirations and financial need.  Applications are due July 1 and Nov. 1.  See:  www.aacn.nche.edu/Education/Lydia.doc.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Hospice Care Corporation needs volunteers for the following events:  July 10 – Tours of Arthurdale Inn; July 18 – Hole watchers, registration workers, and golfers for the Dr. D.R. Davis Golf Classic; August 1 – Bingo night; August 5 – Driver for the Hospice vehicle at the Reedsville Fair; August 7 – Mon County Greatest Garage Sale; August 9 – 14 – Mon County Fair;  August 17 – Bingo.  If interested call Tracey at 599-4200 or email jzuercher@hospicecarecorp.com.

Energy Express at Brookhaven Elementary School is looking for volunteers for their summer program.   Volunteers are needed to help with reading, writing, art projects, and recreation.  Office and kitchen help are also needed.  The program begins June 22 and runs five days a week until July 30.  For more information, contact Kara Martin, Volunteer Coordinator, at 288-7264.

Caritas House is a non-profit agency that helps those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in 25 counties in north-central West Virginia. They are looking for volunteers to help clients with transportation to medical and dental appointments, tranportation to food pantries, housekeeping, lawn care, meal preparation, and respite care.  Please call 598-5111 or stop by their office in the Mon Co. Health Dept. Annex (with WIC) from 8a.m. - 4p.m.

MonPointe Continuing Care Center needs student volunteers to assist with resident activities.  Contact Christina Brown, Director of Activities, at 285-2720, brownc@monhealthsys.org
